TW: mentions of self harm

That night, I went outside to get some fresh air, when I saw a rather familiar- and cute- face.

"Mind if I lay down with you?" I asked Jax.

"Not at all, princess." He replied softly.

I laid down next to him on the soft, grassy hill, looking up at all the digital stars.

"Jax..?"

"Yes?"

"Do you ever feel... alone... even when there's people all around you and you have friends to talk to?"

"Well.. yeah. I get that." He looked over at my rather glossy looking eyes. "Everything okay, Y/N?"

I sighed shakily. "Yeah it's just.."

He sat up, looking down at me with a rare expression of concern on his face.

"That's the most un-ok look I've ever seen, short stack. I don't believe you."

"I dunno- I guess I'm just in a weird head space right now."

"I understand."

There was silence for a moment, then he spoke up.

"I.. know how you feel."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." He responded. "All those mean and sarcastic jokes I make.. are just me... how do I word it?"

"Coping?"

"Yeah, yeah that." He paused, drawing imaginary circles with his finger on the grass. "I mean.. life's hard. Really, really hard."

"Yeah..." I agreed.

Another pause.

"I do the same thing." I piped up.

"Do you, now?"

"Yeah. It's all I can do besides..."

"Besides what?"

"Ok, so... When I was in the.. real world... I found some sort of relief in..." I made a slashing motion against my arm.

"You... hurt yourself?"

I nodded slowly.

"I.. I'm sorry..."

He put a gentle yet awkward arm on mine.

"It'll be ok... Please, try to get out of it."

"I'm trying." I reassured him. "It's just hard."

"I know.." He said. "I know.."

He laid back down, holding my hand in his as we looked up at the stars. He sighed.

"Y/N?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm, like, really sorry."

"For?"

"What you're going through, and... how much of a jerk I've been."

"Oh.. No, don't apologize."

He looked at me questioningly.

"I understand why you do it now. It's okay."

"No, it isn't. I'm seriously sorry. For everything."

I smiled softly. "I accept your apology." I squeezed his hand gently.

"Shortie?" He asked.

"Yeah?"

"I... Man I don't know how to say this... I.. love you."

I turned my head quickly.

"You what?"

"I love you." He repeated.

I smiled widely, then leaned over, and somewhat shakily placed a small kiss on his cheek. We both blushed like crazy.

"I'm assuming that means you feel the same?" He chuckled.

"Yeah. I guess you are pretty cute." I replied.

"Not as cute as you."

We stargazed for a while longer, pointing out constellations to each other until Caine's voice called over the entire floating island, then we walked inside, making EXTRA sure Ragatha couldn't see us holding hands.
