Sam: Why wait until Monday? I pay you to assist me when I need it, and I need you now! We want Zoe back with us by tomorrow!

Mon observed from the couch as Sam paced anxiously around the living room, her phone pressed tightly to her ear. Each step she took seemed to echo her growing desperation. It had been thirty agonizing minutes since Zoe was taken away, and the sound of her little girl's cries still lingered in Mon's mind, a painful reminder of the turmoil they were facing.

Sam's voice was a blend of urgency and frustration as she reached out to her lawyer, friends, and anyone who might have the resources to help. Her brows were furrowed in concentration, and Mon could see her fingers gripping the phone tightly as if it were a lifeline to stem the tide of her worry. They had always promised to be there for each other in tough times, but the fear of losing Zoe made the air heavy with uncertainty. Each time Sam hung up after another unsuccessful call, Mon could see how her shoulders slumped just a little more, the weight of the situation pressing down on her.

Sam: Let's meet tomorrow at 9 a.m. I will wait for you at my office!

Sam hung up the phone, her heart heavy with the conversation's weight. She turned and walked towards the couch, where her girlfriend, Mon, was curled up in a ball, quietly sobbing. The soft glow of the lamp cast gentle shadows around the room, creating a cocoon of intimacy and sorrow. Sam took a seat beside her, the cushioning of the couch sinking slightly under her weight.

As she settled in, Mon instinctively lifted her head and laid it against Sam's shoulder, seeking comfort in the warmth and safety of her presence. Sam wrapped an arm around her, pulling her closer, feeling the tremors of Mon's quiet sobs against her. The room was filled with an unspoken understanding, each lost in their own thoughts but united in the moment.

Sam: I will meet with my lawyer tomorrow, but unfortunately, there's nothing he can do since it's the weekend.

Mon remained silent, her mind racing with thoughts. She understood that no matter what words she chose to speak, they would likely offer little comfort or clarity to the situation at hand.

Sam: I just don't understand why this is happening. We have never laid a finger on Zoe. Why did she have that bruise, and why would an anonymous person make that call? Do you think it's Tee's family or Yuki's family behind this? Maybe they want to keep all of Zoe's inheritance from her parents. But why now?

Sam stood up from the couch and began pacing back and forth, trying to sort through her thoughts. Mon just watched her, and with each word Sam spoke, more tears fell. She couldn't shake the feeling that everything unfolding around her was somehow her fault, a weight pressing heavily on her heart. Her mind was also racing with thoughts, unsure of how to open up to her girlfriend about the turmoil inside her. The fear of disappointing her or making things worse paralyzed her, and she struggled to find the right words.

Sam: Whoever did this will pay! I will make them
pay for making Zoe go through this, and for putting us on this situation. I don't mind how much money I will waste but I will find out who did this and make them suffer just how we are right now!

After that, Sam heard a loud cry coming from her girlfriend. At first, she thought Mon was crying because of the whole situation, so she immediately ran back to the couch to comfort her.

Sam: It's okay, Mon. We will get through this. We will get Zoe back, and everything will be fine. I promise!

Sam wrapped her arms around Mon, pulling her into a tight embrace. Despite the strength of her grip, Mon's body trembled with pent-up emotion. Tears streamed down Mon's face, and it seemed endless, falling like a heavy rain that refused to stop. After a few moments, Sam felt a tug of concern knotting in her stomach; something was wrong.
