The persistent ringing of the phone was irritating. Mon stirred in bed and gently shook Sam, who was beside her, hoping she would wake up and answer it. It was her phone!

The incessant beeping finally ceased, bringing a fleeting moment of peace as Mon nestled deeper into her pillows, ready to surrender to sleep once more. Just as she began to drift off, the aggravating sound erupted again, jolting her upright on the edge of the bed, her eyelids still heavy with exhaustion. Blinking rapidly to shake off the remnants of sleep, she reached for her phone with a groggy hand, her fingers fumbling over the screen as she answered without even glancing at the caller ID. Her heart raced slightly as she braced herself for whatever awaited on the other end of the line.

Mon: Hello?

Boom: Sam?

Mon: No, this is Mon. Who's this?

Boom: Mon, it's Boom—the social worker. I apologize for bothering you at this time. I am desperate. Zoe hasn't stopped crying and isn't eating or drinking anything. I don't know what to do. Please, just come here.

Mon didn't even let the social worker finish her sentence. She got up and turned on the lamp beside her bedside, waking Sam from sleep. Mon started putting on her clothes while listening to Boom's words.

Still confused, Sam sat on the bed and watched Mon walk from one corner to another, looking for her clothes.

Sam: Mon? What's going on?

Mon hung up the phone and tossed it into her bag while also trying to zip her jeans.

Mon: Sam, please put on your clothes, and I will prepare Zoe's bag with snacks and her favorite plushie!

As soon as Sam heard Zoe's name, she stood up and began searching for her clothes, even though she had no clear idea of what was happening. However, seeing how desperate her girlfriend looked as she left the room, Sam didn't have time to ask questions and hurriedly followed Mon's directions.

In less than three minutes, Sam met her girlfriend downstairs, who was still in the kitchen, stuffing the diaper bag with Zoe's snacks. Sam walked closer to Mon and made her look at her eyes. She wanted to know what was happening.

Sam: Mon, sweetie. Where are we going? It's three in the morning!

Mon: We are going to the Social worker's house to get our baby.

For a moment, Sam thought Mon was hallucinating. Before she could process what Mon had said, she saw her rushing out of the kitchen with the bag.

Mon: come quickly.

She quickly regained her composure and stopped her just as she was about to open the front door. Mon looked at her with irritation.

Sam: Babe, as much as I want Zoe with us right now, breaking into the social worker's house won't solve anything. We would go to jail!

Mon looked at her girlfriend with the most confused expression but quickly realized Sam had no idea what was happening. She let out a giggle, which only made Sam more worried.

Mon: We are not breaking in, Sam. Boom called me. Zoe hasn't stopped crying so she want us to help. Now come, before she changes her mind!

Sam: Why didn't you mention that earlier?

Mon: Are you going to sit here and complain, or are you going to go and get our baby?

Sam: Let's go!

Before they knew it, they were ringing the social worker's doorbell.

Boom opened the door with tears streaming down her face. She looked like she was in a lot of distress and quickly began speaking before even inviting the two women inside.
