"What if your family doesn't like me?" I paced around the room
"Robyn, chill. They're friendly...sometimes," Lyriq mumbled the last part
"Why can't we just show up after everyone leaves? I have VERY BAD social anxiety. I don't wanna seem rude," I told her
"You're not gonna seem rude, just relax." She stood up, placing a kiss on my lips
"Didn't you say your family don't like white folks?" I asked
"Uhm... Robyn, you'll be fine. I was...lying," She said
I remember when we were still "beefing" and she said, "This why my folks hate y'all kind, annoying ass cracker bitch,". I genuinely cried the whole night when she said that.
"I'm nervous though," I fiddled with the belt loops on my jeans
"Well, I already told everyone that we'd show up so..." Lyriq trailed off
"You know what? Hell yeah, let's do this. What's the worst that can happen?" I gave in

"So this is one of your little friends?" Lyriq's Aunt asked her
"No. We're together, Tee Tee, "Lyriq corrected her for the hundredth time
"Like dating?" She asked
"Yes," Lyriq replied
"She looks like Patrick O'Connell," Lyriq's Aunt said
"Who's that?" I asked confused
"Some old boxer from the 80s she's obsessed with," Lyriq replied
"Oh okay," I nodded awkwardly
"Like, you actually look so much like him, you sure you ain't kin?" Lyriq's Aunt asked me
"Auntie, she's from Newark," Lyriq rolled her eyes
"Okay... I was just saying," Lyriq's aunt mumbled.
"My name's Renee though, it's nice to meet you, Robyn," Renee shook my hand.
"Nice to meet you too, Ma'am," I smiled politely.
"I see this one has all of her teeth, nice upgrade, Lyriq," Renee said to Lyriq before walking off.
"Hey Lyriq, come over here and say hi to your Uncle Calvin!" Lyriq's mother, Phaedra, instructed
"Whatever you do, just say Muhammad Ali, got that?" Lyriq turned towards me
"Why?" I asked
"Just do it," Lyriq mumbled before dragging me along with her to her Uncle Calvin.
"Hey Unc," Lyriq hugged the muscular, tall, tatted, brown-skinned man
