RIDE OR DIE~ NINA BOY
"All I ever wanted was a ride or die nigga"

Lyriq POV
"Push." Aunt Dez held my hand tightly.

Today, I'm reminded of the most beautiful, but agonizing experiences in womanhood.

Birth.

It's worse than menstrual cycle.

"I'm fucking pushing, Lyndeja!" I snapped at her.

She laughed.

Not even two months ago, she just gave birth to her daughter, Selma. Aunt Keisha had a son named Salem.

Salem is older than Selma by three weeks.

They really named their kids the same name—they just spelled it differently. It got the same amount of letters.

"Here it comes!" The nurse yelled.

I pushed with all of my might, crying in the process.

"Chai!" I yelled in Nigerian.

"You got it, niece. You done did this before. This ain't nun!" Aunt Keisha cheered me on.

"Here it comes!" My midwife, Elyse, yelled.

I gave one big push; seconds later hearing faint cries.

"It's a girl!" Elyse yelled.

"You did it, Lyriq!" Billie hugged me.

"Woah, is that a baby?" Nasir ran up.

"June 19th, 2023, at 6:19pm." Elyse wrote down.

"What you gonna name her?" Billie asked me.

"Bonquisha." Aunt Dez joked.

"Girl, hell no." I chuckled lightly.

"We can leave it as babygirl if you can't decide." Elyse suggested.

"No. I got her name.. Kemba Moremi Taylor." I spoke up.

"Wait—Moremi, like Queen Moremi?" Aunt Keisha voiced.

I nodded.

"That's cute. I should've named my daughter that. But, Selma is my great-grandmother's name." Aunt Dez mumbled.

"She's so pretty." Billie told me. Gesturing towards Kemba.

"Yeah, she is. I'm glad I got a sister, mama. And, I'm glad you're safe. Safe and sound." Nasir caressed my hair.

I smiled.

He's such a sweet boy.

"Hello, am I speaking to Ms. Taylor?" The person on the other end asked.

"Whom is calling?" I groaned.

I just gave birth to a baby not even six hours ago.

"This is Jessica Southerland, I'm calling from Los Altos DCS office, this is concerning the father of your child—Nate Petit."she started.

"What's this about?" I raised an eyebrow.

"I was told you're his children's closest living relative." She said.

"Uh...what?" I sat up.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Legally I can't provide details surrounding the case, but, Mrs. Petit was arrested this morning in Los Altos. We prioritize putting children with their biological family, before seeking foster homes." She said.

"Stephanie got arrested?" I asked.

"Yes ma'am." Jessica replied.

"Uh, okay, I—I don't really know his kids. My daughter was a result of...bad times. I was just messing around with him. Who-who told you about me?" I asked.

"We were brought attention to a DNA sample from a rape kit, along with confirmation from officials that your daughter, Kemba, was born. Your daughter is biologically related to the Petit family." She explained.

"Do I have to get them now?" I asked.

"H-how many children are there?" I asked.

"Two children." She replied.

"I'll take them in." I gave in.

"We really appreciate you, Ms. Taylor. I can text you an address to sign papers and pick them up." She said.

"When do I have to get them?" I asked.

"We should have papers with the courts signed, and printed first thing Monday. I'll text you a couple of days ahead, though." Jessica replied.

"Okay, thank you. Have a nice day." I sighed.

"You as well, ma'am. Congratulations on your daughter by the way." She said.

"Thank you." I replied before hanging up.

Four kids.

Four kids will be counting on me to nurture them.

I need to pull some hours ASAP.
