It was afterschool on a sunny Thursday. I walked out and met up with Mimi. We got in the car and I saw Eli walking with his friends. They were headed to the gas station as we drove past them.
"Where are we thinking?"
"I'm really craving Rita's I don't know why"
"Alrighty!"
We drove to Rita's. I got a cotton candy gelati and Mimi got an oreo milkshake.
We got in the car and ate them as I got a phone call from Eli. I obviously answered.

Hey are you close?
Not really but we can
head back what's up?
I'm outside the house but
I went to throw away my trash
and theres beer bottles there

Call ended
"Home?" Mimi turned to me.
"Yes please"
We got back home and I separated from Mimi.
"You guys were fast"
"Damn we were" I looked at the time.
Eli and I walked in together and saw our dad. He was standing by the fridge but had his arms on the island and had his head dangling down to the floor. He had a fresh, cold, barely drunken bottle of beer in front of him. In the trash I saw at least 3 more bottles. Eli and I walked to the other side of the island and looked at him.
"So I was right! It was all an act. New record tho to be fair you lasted two weeks! Congratulations." I started being a smartass. Might as well make fun you know.
Eli swatted at my arm.
"There's more bottles in the trash outside so how many cases this time?"
"Niola." My dad whisper-yelled.
"Might want to run back out and get more because by the looks of it you'll be done all them by dinner"
"Dude." Eli whispered. I shrugged.
"Just lightening the mo-"
"Damn it Niola." My dad slammed his fist on the counter and faced us. It was enough to make Eli jump.
"What"
"You've got a lot of nerve-"
"You're the one drinking I just pointed it out"
"Niola Bailey"
"This is your fault I don't see why you're yel-"
"That is enough. I've heard enough from the both of your mouths. Best thing about my job is I never had to see you two."
Ok damn those words hurt. Eli had tears in his eyed and ran upstairs.
"Now look at what you did. You're really winning father of the year here." I started to chase after him but stopped at the foot of the stairs and looked at my dad.
"Don't worry though the feelings were always mutual dad" I walked upstairs.
"Don't talk to your-" He started yelling but I had already made it to Eli's room. I slammed the door and locked it. He was sitting against his bed with his knees up and his head down covering his face. I regretted everything.
"No you don't get to be a smartass then come to comfort me. Why can't you ever just watch your mouth?!" He wiped his tears.
"I'm sorry Eli I don't-" I sat down next to him.
"You promised me and you broke your promise." He didn't look at me.
"I really am sorry." I turned to give him a hug. Thankfully he hugged me back.
"Please never again Nai" He sniffled and let go as he wiped his face.
"I genuinely promise." I held up my pinky. He looked at me then at my pinky then at me again.
"I'll believe it when I see it." He accepted my pinky promise.
