Shawn and I were making out at Chubbie's while Cory read some invitation.

"Stephanie and Todd invite you to a dinner party at Todd's place. Couples only. Guys, that's discrimination. It leaves out a lot of people who have committed themselves to the single life— people like us." He paused.

"Huh?" Shawn asked as we pulled apart. "People like me." Cory said. "Remember in Health class that section about the movement of blood?" Shawn asked. "I understand it now." I rolled my eyes. "Fine, bail on your best friend." Cory said, sitting at the table.

"Cory, just ask a girl, and you can go too. This time, I don't think there will be any sick or dying grandma's." I said. "Look, there's Wendy. You know her, you like her, take her on a date or two, then ask her to be your girlfriend. It doesn't have to be just for the party."

"Yeah, you're thinking too much." Shawn said. "Do what I do— don't think." "Don't do that." I said. "You can think, just don't overthink. Got it?" Cory nodded and walked over to Wendy. "Wendy, hi." He said.

"Oh, hi, Cory." She replied. "Um, listen, Stephanie and Todd are having this party, and I was wondering if you'd like to go with me." He asked, handing her the card.

"Well, Cory, this invitation says couples only." She replied, handing the invite back. "Oh, that. Well, if we went to the party together then we'd be a couple." He said, sitting down across from Wendy at the booth.

"I think you're just looking for a date." She said. "No, I'd really like to go with you." "So you wanna be a couple with me?" "Sure." Wendy rose from her seat. "You do?" "Yeah, I do." He rose from his seat.

"I do too. This is wonderful, Cory." She gave him a quick kiss. "Is it okay if I go tell all my friends?" She asked. "Sure, and I'll tell all of mine." He answered.

"Shadriana!" Cory exclaimed, mixing Shawn and I's name together. "Hey, look at me. I'm a couple." He said proudly.

"Hi, Cory." A blonde girl said. "Oh, Bunny, hi." "Can you help me with my English homework?" She asked. "Sorry, I can't tonight." "Oh." She walked away.

Cory turned back to me and Shawn. "What's with the girls in our English class? That's like the fifth one who's asked me for help with the homework." "Cor, are you that clueless?" Shawn asked.

"Clueless? Obviously, I'm the one who knows what the homework is." "They don't want homework help. They want you." I said. "Why?" "Because you're someone's other half. You're off the market. They can't have you. They want you more."

Shawn climbed off the table and walked away to get a drink. "What sense does that make?" Cory asked. "You're hot. Use it. Got for it." Shawn said just a few feet away. "Don't listen to him, Cory. Stay loyal. It's the right thing to do." I said.

"How long have you been going out with Wendy?" Shawn asked, walking back to the table. "About a week." Cory answered. "Oh, breakup!" I smacked Shawn's arm.

"Why? Wendy's so cute. She's adorable. She likes me." "You are so superficial." Shawn told him. "End it this minute." "Why?" Cory asked.

"Because a week's too long to be going out with the same person." "Well, then, Shawn, I guess our date on Friday is canceled." I said. "Well, no, I— I mean for Cory. He's still new to this life and doesn't have experience." Shawn stuttered.

"I mean, this girl is bound to learn his schedule, wait outside his class, and I once heard a girl ask a guy what he was doing next summer." Cory laughed nervously. "What a loser."

"So, you got the break-up note?" Shawn asked Cory as we turned in our English homework. "Yeah, but I just want to wait for the right moment to give it to her." Cory replied.
