I was running a bit late to school due to Dad being sad and hung over. Eddie was already at school because he took the bus.
I ran down the hall and into the classroom just as the bell rang and Mr. Feeny walked in himself.
I sat down at my desk and dropped my backpack to the side.
"Good morning, class." Mr. Feeny said. "I trust you all had a good weekend."
"I sure did. My mom made brownies, and my dad rented two monster movie videos." Cory said.
"I sold blood." Shawn said.
"I went to Botella de Barcelona with my dad." I said. "Adriana-Camila, you're aware that's a bar, right?" Shawn said. "Yeah, I figured that out right after I watched the bartender take a beer bottle to the head."
"This morning, we have two guest lecturers." Mr. Feeny said. "The school board feels that since you're all starting the seventh grade next year, it would behoove you to have an advanced taste of the experience." Mr. Feeny said.
Someone knocked on the doorway. "Eric?" "Eddie?" Cory and I questioned.
"Cory." Eric said, confused.
"Adriana-Camila!" Eddie exclaimed.
"Mr. Matthews? Mr. Flores?" Mr. Feeny questioned. "Mr. Feeny?" Eric said. "Mr. Feeny!" Eddie said. They walked over to Mr. Feeny's desk.
"I thought the school said they were sending over two good students. I only see one." "Thanks, Mr. Feeny." Eric said. "I wasn't talking about you." He replied. "He was talking about me." Eddie said with a satisfied smile. "Proceed." Mr. Feeny said, sitting down.
"Hi, kids, I'm Eddie, this here is my buddy, Eric. I'm in the eleventh grade and Eric's in the tenth at John Adam's High School, the school you'll all be going to next year."
"At least all of us who pass." Minkus said. "Hey, that's my baby sister you're talking about. Wait till next year when I can triple your vision." Eddie said, leaning down in front of Minkus' face.
"Please, class, give Mr. Flores and Mr. Matthews your attention." Mr. Feeny said.
"Matthews?" Topanga questioned. "Oh, yeah, I'm Cory's older brother. I got the good hair." He said.
"Anyway, next year you guys will be seventh graders or, as we upper classmen will be calling you, phlegm balls." Eric said. Eddie looked at me and shook his head. "Now, there's gonna be a few things you're gonna need to know for survival on the mean streets of high school."
"Will the exam process be more rigorous?" Minkus asked. "Well, it'll be more-" Eric cut Eddie off. "Parties are gonna be a lot better, too, because you can stay out later." Eddie looked at me and shook his head again. "And, of course, cool clothes are a must." Eric said before doing a spin.
I admired Eddie's outfit. He had on a gray Black Sabbath shirt, slightly ripped baggy jeans, black boots, a leather jacket, and a gray bandana around his head.
"For that young detention sitter on the go." Mr. Feeny said. "Yeah. Uh, you're gonna want to know where the parking lot is, too, because that's where the most popular kids hang and you're gonna wanna hang with them, unless of course, you want to look like a complete nerd." "Eric, we're supposed to take this seriously, man." Eddie said. "No offense, Mink." Eric told Minkus.
"I have a question." Cory said. "Who cares?" "This isn't like home, Eric. In here, when I raise my hand, you have to answer." "I do?" "I do, too." Mr. Feeny said.
"What's your question, kid?" Eddie asked. "Alright, now, next year, when you're sixteen and driving to school, would you be willing to give a ride to a certain few select phlegm balls?" "Only one after what you two did to my last car." Eddie said. "I swear I have no idea how that squirrel got into my backpack!" Shawn said in defense. Cory fake fainted onto the floor. "What do I owe you two?" Mr. Feeny asked.
