Shawn wasn't in school today, so it was Cory and I's job to cover for him as long as possible.
Mr. Feeny walked into Mr. Turner's room and went to the front of the class to speak with him, but stopped and turned around to Cory.
"Mr. Matthews," Mr. Feeny took notice at how happily Cory was holding a random fruit. "Where did you get that papaya?"
"From home." Cory answered. "Is there a problem?" "I've got my eye on you." Mr. Feeny went over to Mr. Turner. "What was that about?" Cory whispered to me.
"He keeps getting these baskets from seniors who want him to write their recommendation letters for college." I replied. "I guess he was missing a papaya."
"Hey, George," Mr. Turner greeted. "What's up?" "Well, I just wanted to be sure you knew the Hunter boy missed his history test this morning." "He what?"
Cory shot up from his seat and went over to the two teachers. "Oh, that's my fault, my fault. I was supposed to tell you that Shawn had a severe case of, uh..."
He looked at Mr. Feeny. "Help me out here." "Sloth?" "Yes! Hong Kong sloth." "You could've said flu." I muttered.
"That's it." Mr. Turner said before exiting the classroom. "Not your best work, Mr. Matthews." Mr. Feeny said.

"Hong Kong sloth?" Shawn questioned. "Well, Feeny came up with the sloth, but I added the Hong Kong part." Cory replied. "You could've said flu." "That's what I said!" I exclaimed.
"Turner didn't even wanna talk about it. He's all, "Hunter, tomorrow you're seeing the new guidance counselor." Shawn mocked.
"I'll tell you one thing, though. Shawn Hunter is not gonna waste an hour of his life listening to some bald-headed, long-winded, leisure suit wearing know-it-all."
A lady walked over and gasped as she looked at the door next to the payphone.
"Oh! My name's on the door! They didn't have to do that!" She sounded very sweet and kind. "Are you the new guidance counselor?" I asked. "Hi, I'm Devin Collins." She shook my hand.
"Hi, I'm Adriana-Camila Flores." Shawn pushed me out of the way. "Hi, I'm Shawn Hunter. Guide me." He said, shaking her hand.
"Oh, he's dead." I mumbled. "Not so fast, Adriana." Cory said, pulling me away. "There's too many witnesses." "I've taught you well." I replied.

"Guys, come on. It's just a stupid rumor." Cory told three other boys as we exited Mr. Turner's classroom.
"I mean, there's a better chance of me running into the Loch Ness monster than ever seeing that greaseball Harley here again. I mean re—"
Cory's sentence ended abruptly when Harley grabbed him by the back of his neck. He froze and looked at Harley from the corner of his eye.
The three boys ran away while I was almost frozen in shock. "And here I am in Scotland." Cory muttered, giving Harley a small wave.
"Baboon," Harley said with a snicker. "Did you get those threatening letters I sent?" "Yes, I did. Thank you." Cory replied. "Sorry I didn't answer. I've been busy."
Cory reached into his pocket. "Here's my wallet, enjoy." He ran off, leaving me behind. "I still got it." Harley said with a satisfied smile.
He then turned to me, still smiling. "Cupcake!" He said, throwing his arms in the air. He then wrapped them around me, pulling me off the ground.
