Hanazawa Teruki is a (self-proclaimed) realist.

With his psychic powers and brains alone, he had dominated his peers by a landmine. There was nothing he couldn't master, or fake to master to create an illusion of his omnipotent power. He was a natural, he was gifted by the gods— he was the main character of this world's story.

It was obvious how such thoughts had accumulated into something more intense. His lack of humility made him blind to the reality, turning him into an individual that won't be understood by his peers— and that was fine. They acknowledged his strength and wit, he had dominated them in every single aspect they thought they had mastered. It didn't matter if it was foul play, all that mattered that his power was visible and felt.

And thus ; he, who is blind to his own mishaps due to his foul play can only see the beauty in himself, could only think of him as the true beholder of the title of 'protagonist' in this world. There had no proof to contradict his belief, and so he remained correct.

What he didn't realise however, is that he is only a big fish in a small pond.

That shallow worldview was shattered by two individuals in particular.

Though in a passive manner, you had to shatter the view that no, he was not the only natural in psychic powers. You were able to store an uncountable amount of psychic energy, which could deem you as a threat. However...he soon realised there was nothing to worry.

Your uncontrollable pallette for storing power had became your weakness. You had no say on what your body wanted to do, and by the looks of it, you had only awakened it after a traumatic experience with a rather strong spirit. The way your body staggered like a new born lamb after the use of your powers..it made him relieved. He was still the big fish in the pond. There was no need to worry.

You were weaker than him. That was enough for him to boost his ego, further seeing you as a tool to advance to his peak form.

A beautiful girl, who just so happens to be struggling with an uncontrollable power and in need of help, like a damsel in distress. He felt (though unconsciously) like prince charming busting through the doors of the castle to save the damsel in distress from the claws and fiery breath of a dragon. You needed help. You were weak...he saw a chance.

You would be easy to use, is one of the thoughts he had. He planned to date you for a while in order to stroke his ego. Drunk off dopamine, he remembers how you flirted with him the first time you both met, the way your eyes twinkled like stars when you looked at him— it gave him a sense of conviction that you would be a worthwhile investment.

To his suprise, you were hesitant to his advances. He supposed you were shy, (which isn't far from the truth) but there was a nagging feeling at the back of his head, that you..simply weren't interested in him in such a way.

A girl, that is not interested in The Hanazawa Teruki? Impossible.

And so, he made it his mission to somewhat gain your favour.

Playing as your teacher proved to be a tedious task. The way you clung to him after every mishap, the way you were itching for his approval for your sense of control simply elevated his delusional view of himself. You were another tool to stroke his ego with your weakness...is what he thought, and yet, he can't help but feel worry whenever you end up looking less than peachy.

He turned a blind eye to those feelings, opting to think of it as a nuisance more than anything and yet— he finds himself doing something past him would've rather died than doing ; doing the first move. Worrying, waiting, and being glad you were safe..is something that is all too new for him.
