Present time...
Today's New York evening is especially beautiful and warm. The sun is already setting behind the horizon, touching the roofs of buildings, windows with its rays, softly and playfully running over passers-by, weaving into hair. The day turned out to be simply beautiful, a little busy and a little nervous, but so wonderful.
Perhaps it's the eve of the wedding that has such an effect, Naomi thinks, thoughtfully looking at the external decor in the wedding store. There are just a few more little things left to buy, and the preparations are almost complete. She is happy. Really happy...
"Miss Turner," Naomi's assistant comes out of the store, approaching her. "I just ordered the delivery of flowers and an arch" the girl looks at her tablet with papers. "They also have garlands, they kindly offer us a discount, so we can take them and hang them in the garden" she suggests.
Naomi had been looking at the flowers in the shop's window all this time, but she was lost in her thoughts.
"Miss Turner?" the assistant makes a second attempt to get through to her boss, taking a step forward, standing in front of her so that she would turn her gaze from the window to her.
"Oh, sorry, did you say something about fairy lights?" Naomi blinked a couple of times and then turned her gaze to the assistant, smiling apologetically at her.
The assistant takes a deep breath inwardly.
"Yeah, I was just saying that they were offering us a discount on fairy lights to decorate the garden with" the girl repeats, glancing briefly at the clipboard with papers.
"Well, I suppose that's a good idea" Naomi shrugs, squinting slightly in the setting sun.
She can't help but glance at the roofs of the high-rises, which are completely covered in golden rays. The light is reflected on the ends of the houses, in the mirrors of cars, in the glasses of passers-by, shimmering on the fabric of clothes, covering the walls of the buildings with its warmth and light.
"That's true" the assistant nods. "Almost everything is ready for the wedding, Miss Turner..."
The fair-haired girl wanted to answer, when she felt a light touch on her shoulder, and then noticed Diana's uncomprehending look directed behind her back.
"Naomi?"
At that moment, it seems that the heart skipped a beat, although it was exactly that. A heartbeat with an extraordinary surge of fear, excitement and anxiety. A sufficient jolt in the chest for black spots to dance in the eyes and for a moment it seemed that you were stunned. It seems like only seconds, but as if growing into eternity. This is what happens when you hear a voice from the past...
"Sir, can I help you with something?" Diana tries to ask, watching the man approach them, while the boss turns around at the voice behind her.
Everything in her chest seems to have frozen. Naomi feels like she's not breathing, and her heart isn't even beating, not to mention that everything in her stomach is twisted into a tight knot.
She's shocked. So shocked that she doesn't turn around right away, and when she does, it seems like the world has frozen, and she barely hears what Diana is saying, she's focused on only one thing...
"Miss Turner?" the assistant turns to the boss, at least expecting her to give her a command on what to do, but Naomi only raises her hand, thereby telling Diana that everything is fine.
Naomi finally looks into the man's black eyes, noticing that his eyes are still as warm as before. There are more wrinkles, his hair is grayer, and his neatly trimmed beard has become more gray, but he still looks great, despite his age.
