Five years ago. Munich...

A long time has passed since Becca began her second course of chemotherapy. It was a difficult time for everyone: for the girl herself, and for Billy, Robert and the guys. Everything was repeating itself, as if in a circle, and sometimes it seemed that it would never end. That the pain would never stop, that Becca would never see the light at the end of the tunnel. That's how it seemed to her on another day after a session, when she just wanted to die from the pain in her body and fatigue.

But the next day Ling came to the girl to visit her and talk. During the treatment, they had become very close. Attwood realized that she had become too attached to Becca and her family. She had become very attached to Robert and their conversations in the evenings. For Ling, this was now personal, and the woman was glad that she was the one leading the girl.

"I have good news, dear," Ling says with a smile, after their light conversation about how boring their morning had been. The woman sits on the edge of Becca's bed, leaning her hand on the mattress. "Tomorrow is the last day. We will do some more tests, but I can tell you in advance that we can go into remission. Do you understand what that means?"

Becca understands what that means. No more pain, fatigue, body aches, depression and anxiety. A healthy appetite will return, the bruises from the IVs will go away, the skin will return to normal, and the body will begin to recover.

Becca looks at the woman and raises her eyebrows, smiling faintly.

"Will I finally get a new hairdo?"

Ling gently nudges the girl's hand and smiles warmly.

"That too" the woman answers. "And that means you get a second chance. Of course, you will still undergo tests and often. I will monitor your condition all the time. We can't miss anything" Attwood now speaks a little more seriously, but still smiling with her eyes. "But you will begin to recover. Your body will need many months to overcome the effects of chemotherapy. You know how drugs destroy not only cancer cells, but also healthy ones. But the pain will go away. I would also advise you to be less nervous, so as not to cause panic attacks. They will make it harder for you to breathe, and as a result, you will feel pain. You should be happier."

"Yes, I have been lacking joy lately," the girl chuckles, looking down at her hands folded on her stomach.

"I am very proud of you, Becca," the woman touches the girl's hands with her palm and she immediately turns her gaze to Ling. "We have all done a great job. Especially you, because despite everything, you chose to fight and this, I believe, changed everything. As strange as it may sound, that people's emotional state affects success, but it is true. Our body obeys us. When it understands that you do not want to treat yourself, it does so reluctantly. But when you want it yourself, when you convince yourself that you want to live and recover, the body does it. Everything comes from the head. In our sleep, we heal ourselves, from stress we cripple ourselves. It is inexplicable, but it is so. And I am glad that you chose the right path" Ling falls silent for a moment, looking into the green eyes opposite, "and I hope that one day you will find Freen and you will start all over again. I know that she is very dear to you."

Becca smiles sadly.

"I hope so too, that I can find her one day. Alas, it is impossible now."

"Everything in its own time, my dear," Attwood lightly touches Becca's nose with her finger and she immediately smiles a wide smile.

The brown-haired never ceases to be amazed at how much Ling reminds her of her mother. She exudes the same warmth and protection. Becca trusts her completely and unconditionally. Ling did everything to make the girl trust her, and subsequently her father too.
