Secret Life

Joel x Etho

Etho was running. The enderman was after him and he had to hurry to keep even a small chance of surviving. He sprinted towards the lake around Heart Foundation and as he did so he could hear Grian and Cleo’s laughter alongside Joel’s loud urges to run for water.

“Do something Grian!” Etho yelled, calling for his teammate before muttering quietly to himself; “I’m so dead.”

The enderman’s screech was loud in his ears, and as he ran it only got more aggressive. Soon he arrived at the lake and as he raced into the shallows, the enderman teleported to the bank. Joel, Grian and Skizz were close behind, wielding swords and axes respectively. Joel ran in first, pummeling the enderman with hits, while Grian hid behind his shield, protecting his measly four hearts. Skizz then came in and struck its head off with an axe, and it fell to the ground, dead.

Just as Etho was about to take a sigh of relief, he heard something that made his blood run cold.

“Hey Etho!”

“Get him!”

The zombies.

Etho looked towards the Heart Foundation bridge to see Gem, Impulse and Bdubs running across it towards him.

“RUN ETHO!”

Joel’s yell sprung Etho into action, and he hurried through the water, the weight of it slowing him down. The zombies drew closer, and the moment he hit the sandy shore, he knew it was too late. He ran as fast as he could, and arrows from his teammates flew around him as a protective cover, but Bdubs was out for blood. As he was running, suddenly Scar was right in front of him, sword in hand. It was all over in an instant, and the yells of the non-zombies filled his ears as he fell to the ground, Scar’s sword stabbed in his chest.

“NO! They got Etho!” Grian yelled, and Etho could dully hear Skizz fighting with Gem.

“Etho!” Joel yelled as Etho’s vision became black and fuzzy.

Etho felt a sensation like he was falling, and suddenly he woke up at spawn, laying down beside the campfire. He was a zombie.

*****

Joel was panicking. He was running as fast as he could, but it still wasn’t fast enough. Arrows whizzed by his head, and he fumbled with his sword as he tripped over a small hill in the grass. He looked up and saw the Mounders base fly past him as he ran, and the shouts of the zombies grew louder.

“Get back here Joel!”

“Join us!”

“Not happening!” Joel shouted as he ran, his breath coming out in sharp heaves.

“Boat Boys forever right Joel?”

As Etho said that Joel tripped and fell, his momentum carried him down the hill towards the river that wound through the server. As he fell, he could feel the irreparable damage it was doing to him, and when he hit the water with a splash he swam as fast as he could towards the opposite bank.

“I’m sorry Etho!” Joel yelled as he climbed out, soaking wet on the other side.

He stood up and paused for a moment to turn around and look at the people on the other side of the river as they shot arrows at him. Gem looked determined, Bdubs was out for blood, and Etho, well Etho looked a bit sad, almost like he regretted what was about to happen. Joel locked eyes with Etho and winced as he saw the red flare in his pupils, the blood thirsty mark of being a part of the zombie horde.

“I’m so sorry.” Joel whispered before turning to run away before they could swim to the other side of the river.

He hadn’t been able to save Etho from the zombies before, and now he wouldn’t even be able to save himself.

He felt an arrow pierce his leg, and he fell to the floor unable to get back up. Pearl and Bdubs were shooting at him while Gem swam across the river towards him, and Etho was nowhere in sight. Joel crawled backwards as Gem drew closer, and he knew this was the end. Why oh, why did he go off alone?

Gem sliced her sword across his throat and he suddenly jerked upright in his bed, respawning as a red name. He now had to join the zombie horde, leaving the survivors behind. Joel stood up from the bed, and he heard a small creak in the stairs up to his room.

“Hello?” Joel called and suddenly Etho turned the corner and walked into his room.

“Hey Joel.” Etho said softly, all traces of the aggression from before gone.

“Why are you here Etho?” Joel asked, sitting back down on the bed behind him.

“Gem sent me.” He replied.

“No she didn’t, you were gone before I was even dead.” Joel pointed out.

“Fine.” Etho sighed, sitting down beside Joel. “I came for you. No zombie reasons for me being here.”

Joel raised an eyebrow at him.

“Really.” Etho gently placed his hand on Joel’s shoulder and smiled gently.

“I’m sorry Etho.” Joel sighed. “I should’ve done more to save you.”

“I forgive your unnecessary apology.” Etho said with a smile, pulling Joel into a hug. “It was a one vs three! I was done at that point.”

“Sorry.” Joel mumbled into Etho’s hug and the taller rolled his eyes.

“Love you Joel.” Etho said, smiling gently.

“Always.” Joel replied.

Ahhhhh! So CUTE!
