The old market in Oxford was alive with colour and sound, bustling with life in every corner. Yet, Soobin's day had taken a sharp turn for the worse. She clutched her bag tightly, her steps quick and deliberate. Behind her, shadowy figures moved in unison, their intentions unmistakable.

Her heart raced. The idea of a vacation, a break from the glitz and chaos of her career, now felt foolish. She ducked into a narrow alley, her breaths uneven, when a voice, low and familiar, broke the chaos.

"Soobin? Is that you?"

She spun around, her eyes widening in disbelief.

"Y/N?"

There he stood, his figure lean but strong, dressed in civilian clothes that couldn't hide his military bearing. His face, though older than she remembered, still held that mischievous glint from their childhood days.

"What are you doing here?" she whispered, the relief washing over her momentarily before she gestured frantically.

"There are men—"

"I know," he cut her off, his tone steady.

"Stay behind me."

Before she could protest, Y/N moved with swift precision. In a flash, he disarmed one of the men rounding the corner, his movements a blur. The others hesitated, clearly underestimating their target. Y/N's calm confidence had them retreating before reinforcements could arrive.

Once the danger subsided, Soobin sat on a bench in a quieter part of the city, watching as Y/N checked her for injuries. His hands were gentle, though his demeanour remained professional.

"You didn't have to do that," she muttered, looking down.

"Yes, I did," he replied simply.

"You've always been important to me."

Her gaze snapped to his, searching for the boy she used to know in the man before her.

"You're different now," she murmured.

He smirked, his expression softening.

"And you're not? The Soobin I remember used to climb trees to avoid doing homework. Now, you're a superstar."

She laughed despite herself, the sound easing the tension between them. "I guess we've both changed."

That evening, as they sat on the rooftop of her riad, the city lights twinkling below, Soobin found herself leaning closer to him.

"Do you ever miss home?" she asked softly.

"I don't think I ever left it," he replied, his eyes locking with hers.

"You've always been my home, Soobin."

Her breath hitched, the words landing heavier than she expected. This wasn't the playful Y/N she used to know; this was a man who had faced dangers she couldn't imagine, yet still looked at her like she was in the safest place in the world.

"I never thought you'd..." she began, but he shook his head.

"You don't have to say anything now. I just needed you to know."

But she did need to say something. Slowly, she reached out, her hand finding his.

"You saved me today," she whispered, her voice trembling.

"Not just from them. From myself."

His brow furrowed. "Soobin—"

She silenced him with a soft laugh, her cheeks flushing. "You've been my shadow, my protector, even when I didn't realize it. I just... I think I've been waiting for you to catch up."

For the first time since they reunited, Y/N looked genuinely caught off guard. Then, with a quiet chuckle, he squeezed her hand.

"I'm here now. And I'm not going anywhere."
