The early morning of Sunday sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm, golden glow over the bedroom. The soft hum of the baby monitor was the only sound breaking the peaceful silence, occasionally interrupted by the gentle cooing of your newborn baby girl, Hana.
You stirred awake, stretching your arms and smiling as you felt the familiar weight of your wife, Hyewon, snuggled up beside you. Her lips were slightly parted, her cheeks soft and rosy, and she had the most peaceful expression, making you want to keep this moment forever. You gently brushed a strand of hair from her face, marvelling at how beautiful she looked, even when she was asleep.
Carefully, you slipped out of bed, trying not to wake her, and padded quietly to the nursery. Hana's crib was adorned with a soft mobile of stars and moons, slowly turning and casting a soothing light around the room. You peeked inside and found your little girl already awake, her wide, curious eyes staring up at the spinning mobile.
"Good morning, my princess," you whispered, your heart melting as she let out a tiny giggle, her chubby hands reaching up towards you.
You picked her up, cradling her close, and her tiny fingers immediately latched onto your shirt, holding on as if she never wanted to let go.
"Ready to start the day?" you asked, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. Hana responded with a happy gurgle, her big eyes sparkling with innocence and joy.
You carried her into the kitchen, where you started to prepare her morning bottle. As you worked, you felt a pair of arms wrap around your waist from behind, followed by a sleepy voice murmuring.
"Morningg~~"
You turned to see Hyewon, still in her pyjamas, her hair a bit messy from sleep, but looking as radiant as ever. She smiled up at you, her eyes crinkling in that adorable way that always made your heart skip a beat.
"Morning, wifey," you replied, leaning down to give her a gentle kiss.
"How'd you sleep?"
"Better now that I'm with you two," she said, reaching out to gently tickle Hana's tummy, earning a burst of giggles from your daughter.
"I can't believe how big she's getting."
"She's growing so fast," you agreed, handing the bottle to Hyewon so she could feed Hana.
Watching the two of them together never failed to fill you with a sense of overwhelming love and happiness.
After breakfast, you suggested taking Hana out to the park. Hyewon's face lit up at the idea, and she quickly started getting Hana ready, dressing her in a cute, frilly pink dress with little bows and a matching sun hat. Hana looked absolutely adorable, like a tiny princess, and you couldn't resist taking a few pictures to capture the moment.
The park was alive with the sounds of birds chirping and children laughing, and you found a perfect spot under a large, shady tree. Hyewon spread out the blanket while you laid out the picnic basket. Hana, wide-eyed with curiosity, sat on the blanket between you, her little hands reaching out to explore everything within her reach.
"Look at her," Hyewon said, her voice filled with awe as she watched Hana try to grab a leaf.
"She's so curious about everything."
"She gets that from you," you teased, earning a playful nudge from Hyewon.
The three of you spent the afternoon enjoying the simple pleasures of the day. Hyewon played peek-a-boo with Hana, hiding behind her hands and popping out with exaggerated expressions that made Hana squeal with delight. You couldn't help but laugh along, feeling incredibly lucky to have these two wonderful girls in your life.
"Dad, look!" Hyewon called out, holding up a daisy she had picked for Hana. "What do you think? Pretty?"
Hana reached out with chubby little hands, fascinated by the flower. "I think she loves it," you said, smiling as Hana tried to grasp the delicate petals.
Hearing what you said, Hyewon slowly tucked the small daisy behind Hana's ear. "Look how pretty our little girl is," she said, her voice full of pride.
"She's beautiful, but her mom is prettier," you said softly, brushing a kiss on Hyewon's blushing cheek. Hana, now fascinated by the flower, kept trying to grab it, making both of you laugh.
As the afternoon sun began to dip lower in the sky, painting everything in soft golden hues, you packed up and headed back home. Hana had started to get sleepy, her eyes drooping as you carried her in your arms. The walk back was quiet and peaceful, the perfect ending to a perfect day.
Once you were home, you gently laid Hana down in her crib, tucking her in with her favourite blanket. She yawned, her tiny mouth forming the cutest little 'O' shape, and you couldn't resist leaning down to kiss her forehead one last time before she drifted off to sleep.
Hyewon joined you, wrapping her arms around you from behind as you both stood there, watching your baby girl sleep. "Thank you for today," she whispered, her voice filled with love.
"It was perfect."
You turned around, pulling her into a warm embrace. "It was perfect because of you," you said, kissing her gently.
"Every moment with you and Hana is a gift."
Hyewon smiled up at you, her eyes shining with happiness. "I love you," she said softly.
"I love you more," you replied, pressing your forehead against hers, enjoying the closeness.
As you stood there together, holding each other in the quiet of the nursery, you knew that these little moments—these sweet, simple moments of love and togetherness—were the ones that truly mattered. They were the ones you would cherish forever, the ones that made your life with Hyewon and Hana so incredibly special.
