Seoul's bustling streets were alive with the hum of life. Neon lights flickered, illuminating the night culture as people hurried to and from, each wrapped in their own worlds. Amongst them were Y/N and Yunjin, two close friends who had known each other since elementary school. They now both attended the same university, sharing a bond that had only grown stronger over the years.

Y/N, with his signature gummy warm smile, was always the centre of attention. He had an easy charm that always allured girls, of which Yunjin wasn't the biggest fan. Yunjin, on the other hand with her quiet grace and expressive eyes, often stayed in the background, content to watch the world unfold. She had fallen for Y/N long ago, but had kept her feelings hidden, fearing it would ruin the friendship they shared.

They walked side by side along the Han River, the city lights reflecting off the water, casting a serene glow. It was their favourite spot, a place where they could escape the chaos of the city and just be themselves.

Only inches apart, it felt so close yet so far for Yunjin.

"Can you believe we'll be graduating soon?" Y/N said, breaking the ice while his voice tinged with disbelief.

"Feels like just yesterday we were cramming for entrance exams."

"Yeah, time flies." Yunjin smiled, her heart aching with unspoken words.

Y/N turned to her, a thoughtful expression on his face.

"Yunjin-ah, have you thought about what you want to do after graduation?"

Yunjin hesitated, her mind racing. She had dreams, but they all seemed insignificant compared to her feelings for Y/N.

"I'm not sure yet. I guess I'll figure it out as I go."

Y/N nodded, a smile playing on his lips.

"You'll do great, whatever you choose." He replied.

"How can you always say things like this to me. You pabo..."  Yunjin uncontrollably mumbled as her cheeks reflected a tint of blush.

"Did you say something?" Y/N asked while looking at her.

"Nothing, pabo-ya."Yunjin shook her head as she refused.

As the cool autumn breeze caressed their cheeks, they continued walking in comfortable silence, the unspoken tension hanging between them. Yunjin knew she needed to tell him how she felt, but the words stuck in her throat. Just as she was about to speak, Y/N's phone rang.

"Sorry, give me a sec," he said, answering the call. His face lit up when he saw the caller ID.

"Hey, Chaehyun-ah!"

Yunjin's heart sank, as if thousands of daggers pierced through her heart just from listening to the name. Chaehyun was Y/N's girlfriend. They had started dating a few months ago, and Yunjin had watched from the sidelines, her heart breaking a little more each day.

Y/N talked animatedly, his face glowing with happiness. Yunjin felt a pang of jealousy but pushed it aside, focusing on the beautiful night instead. After a few minutes, Y/N hung up and turned back to her.

"Sorry about that. Chaehyun wanted to know if our date was still on for tomorrow," he said, his eyes sparkling.

"It's okay," Yunjin replied, forcing a smile. "You guys have fun."

"I'm sure we will," Y/N replied cheerfully.

Y/N soon looked at her, concern flickering in his eyes as he noticed the slight mood change. "Are you sure everything's okay? You've seemed a bit distant lately."

Yunjin took a deep breath, deciding it was now or never. Despite knowing that Y/N was very much in love with Chaehyun. "Actually, Y/N, there's something I've been meaning to tell you..."

Before she could continue, Y/N's phone buzzed again. He glanced at the screen, his expression torn. "I'm sorry, Yunjin. It's Chaehyun again. Can we talk about this later?"

Yunjin nodded, her heart heavy. "Sure, no problem."

As Y/N walked away, engrossed in his conversation, Yunjin watched him go, the words she wanted to say stuck in her throat. She knew it was too late.

Months passed, and Y/N and Chaehyun's relationship grew stronger. Yunjin tried to move on, burying herself in her studies and spending time with other friends. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't shake the feelings she had for Y/N. As if everything has come back to the start again.

One rainy evening, as she was leaving the library, Y/N appeared, drenched and breathless.

"Yunjin-ah, I need to talk to you," he said, his eyes intense.

"Pabo-ya, what are you doing here? You're soaked!" Yunjin exclaimed, grabbing a towel from her bag and handing it to him.

He took the towel but didn't dry himself off. Instead, he stepped closer, his gaze locking onto hers.

"Yunjin, I... I realized something. I've been so blind, so caught up in everything else that I didn't see what was right in front of me."

Yunjin's heart raced. "W..what are you saying,?"

"I'm saying that I have feelings for you. I think I've always had, but I was too stupid to realize it," he confessed, his voice trembling.

Tears welled up in Yunjin's eyes. "Pabo, I... I've felt the same way for so long, but I thought you didn't see me that way."

Y/N reached out, his hand gently cupping her face. "I'm so sorry, Yunjin. I should have seen it. I should have known."

Just then, Chaehyun walked by, her expression confused and hurt. "Y/N, wh..what's going on?"

Y/N stepped back, his hand falling away from Yunjin's face. "Chaehyun, I... I need to be honest with you. I've realized that my feelings for Yunjin ran deeper than I thought..."

"How long have you felt this way?" Chaehyun's eyes filled with tears.

Y/N looked torn, his emotions raw. "I didn't realize it until now. I'm so sorry, Chaehyun."

Chaehyun nodded, her voice steady despite the tears.

"I knew it from the start. I thought I could make you look at me only...  I can't stay and watch this."

As Chaehyun ran off, Yunjin felt a wave of guilt and sadness. She looked at Y/N, their moment of realization was bittersweet.

"Y/N, maybe this isn't the right time," she said softly.

Y/N looked at her, his eyes filled with regret.

"But what if it's our only chance?" The man asked.

Yunjin shook her head.

"If it's meant to be, it will be. But right now, it's not fair to Chaehyun or to us."

Y/N sighed, nodding reluctantly.

As they stood there, the rain pouring down around them, they both knew. They were the right people, but it was undeniably the wrong time.

And maybe, someday, the timing would be right. But for now, they had to let go.
