You sat on the wooden bench under the orange glow of the setting sun, your fingers nervously fiddling with a small charm on your keychain. The autumn breeze gently rustled the leaves, making them dance around your feet. You glanced at your phone again, smiling as you reread the last text from Mashiro.

I'm on my way! I can't wait to see you! 🥰 -04:53 pm
You could feel your heart fluttering with every word. It was just Mashiro, your best friend—but the thought of seeing her made you feel like you were on the brink of something new and exciting. You'd always felt this warmth around her, but lately, it had grown into something more.
You looked up at the sky, the sunset painting it in shades of pink and orange, much like the colour of your cheeks whenever you thought about her.
Suddenly, you heard the soft, familiar sound of Mashiro's voice calling your name.
"Y/N-ah!"
You turned to see her skipping toward you, her cheeks slightly pink from the cool air. She was wrapped up in an oversized, fluffy sweater that made her look extra cosy, her bangs bouncing with each step. When she reached you, she gave you a small, playful pout.
"I'm sorry I'm late," she said, her eyes sparkling with that adorable mix of sincerity and mischief.
"I got distracted by a cute little puppy on my way here!"
You couldn't help but laugh, slightly patting her head.
"Of course you did," you teased, "but I didn't mind waiting though. It gave me more time to think about you."
Mashiro blushed at your words, a soft giggle escaping her lips. She sat down next to you, and your heart skipped a beat as she scooted closer, her shoulder brushing against yours.
"Look at the sunset," she whispered, her voice full of awe.
"Isn't it the prettiest thing you've ever seen?"
You glanced at the sky, but your eyes quickly drifted back to her.
"Yeah, it is," you said, though you knew you weren't talking about the sunset.
She turned to you, her gaze meeting yours, and for a moment, the world seemed to stand still. There was something in the way she looked at you—something that made your heart race in the best way possible.
"Y/N," she started, her voice soft and sweet, "you've been acting a little different lately. Is there something you want to tell me?"
Your nerves kicked in, but the way she looked at you, so caring and patient, made you feel like you could tell her anything.
"Noona," you began, your voice trembling slightly, "Uhmm, I... I really like you. Like, a lot."
Her eyes widened in surprise, and for a split second, you worried you might have ruined everything. But then, a smile broke out across her face, and she leaned in closer, her nose almost touching yours.
"I really like you too, Y/N," she whispered, her words like music to your ears. "I've liked you for a while now."
Your heart soared, and you couldn't stop the grin from spreading across your face. Without thinking, you gently took her hand in yours, feeling the softness of her skin against your palm.
"I've always fantasised about being your one and only," you chuckled, squeezing her hand gently.
"How did we both not realize this sooner?"
Mashiro giggled, her laughter like the sweetest melody. "I guess we were just too busy being adorable best friends."
You both laughed, the sound mixing with the rustling leaves around you. As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting everything in a soft, golden light, Mashiro leaned her head on your shoulder, her hand still comfortably tucked in yours.
"I'm so glad we talked about this," she murmured, her voice full of warmth. "I've never been this happy."
You looked down at her, smiling like an idiot, with your heart full of affection.
"Me neither, Noona."
