It was a bright Sunday morning. I had carefully planned out my day, stage by stage. I had a shoot with Aaliyah and Jomil at his location. But the first thing on my to-do list today was to drink my morning beverage and exercise before doing anything else. Because my appointment with Aaliyah was scheduled for 3 p.m., which was still quite far away.
I picked up my phone as soon as it rang. Mom's name appeared on the caller ID. I threw my phone on the couch right away; I was not in the mood to talk to her. She was fond of going ghost on me and then reappearing unexpectedly to claim mother of the year.
She was obviously calling to ask if I had received my upkeep. As usual, she doubled it to relieve her guilt. Even though it was unspoken, I knew Rashidi and my mother were having problems. I was not going to pretend to be concerned because I was not a fan of their marriage.
It had everything to do with that woman, that came the other day, I wasn't able to get more information, but with the movements I got that day, since I was home through out, she was linked to Halimah, but that was the only information I got. She also created some tension in the house because, for the first time, I witnessed my mother fighting with her husband.
"Roman." Jamila waves at me, while she walked passed me.
"Is breakfast ready?" I asked.
"I don't know." She replied clearly in a hurry.

Most times I wondered how she played chess all by herself, with so much interest. She appeared to be having a great time, but it looked depressing.
Halima could be all by herself; most of the time, I wondered if she was never tired of being alone, because she never gave me any reason to believe she was tired of staying by herself.
There was something I found very weird and uncomfortable. Halima and Jamila's relationship. The fact they were cousins and even the same age, lived under the same roof, and could go a day without uttering as little as one word to the other. It was something I never understood, and whenever I asked Hali, she would brush it off, saying they were just so different, it wasn't a big deal. There was no sort of bond between them. It was so weird.
I tapped her slowly, but she flinched in response, letting out a tiny scream, more like she wasn't expecting me.
"Why are you screaming?" I asked, laughing uncontrollably.
