I could not contain my shock when I ran into Chiamaka on my way from Halimah's room to mine.

She looked perplexed when I replaced the shocked expression with a relaxed smile.

"You did not go to school again?" She inquired.

"I just got back and went to see how Halimah was doing." I replied.

“Oh, okay. What about Jamila, I want to get something from her.” She spoke.

“I left without her, there is this sport activity in school, she will be back later.” I said and started walking away; it was becoming too uncomfortable to lie this way; I could not tell if she was convinced or not, but I excused myself right away and walked straight to my bedroom without saying anything else.

The knock on my door was audible, and I immediately called out to whoever was outside to come in.

I fixed my gaze on the door, wondering who it was. In no time my Mum walked in.

“I didn't hear you come in.” She said.

Meanwhile, I pretended I had not heard her.

"Good afternoon, Ma.” I greeted formally, while she looked at me from head to toe in an intimidating manner before looking away. That was typical my mother. If only she wasn't my mother.

She was all dressed up, and it appeared that she was going somewhere important.

"Mum, could you please credit my account?" I took advantage of my one-on-one meeting with her, which did not always happen.

"I just credited your account a few days ago." She replied.

This was unusual for her; she always gave me whatever I asked for, especially money, which was clearly intended to alleviate her guilt over being an absent mother.

"Why are you spending so much in such a short period of time?" She was inquisitive.

I scoffed, wondering why she was suddenly questioning me. She never complained.

"Mom, I need money to live." I responded with a laugh. "Have you forgotten? I am a content creator and influencer." I grinned.

"Do you get paid? You cannot keep wasting my money on useless things." She rolled her eyes and pulled her purse, as if I was going to snatch it from her. These people thought so little of me.

“A broke one at that matter.” I smiled.

"You need to rethink what you want to do with your life; you can not keep spending my money while not helping me make it." She said.

“How Mum?” I laughed. "You sent me to school, remember?" I spoke.

"Yet you have chosen to waste your life and time." She fired.

"JESUS." I exclaimed.

“Your mates are in the university.” She sneered.

I knew this woman so well; she was just getting started, and she was clearly out to make me upset.
