^ROMAN'S POV^
ROMAN ANSAH BELLO
The vibe in the house was kind of off and felt pretty negative, but I was over the moon when Jomil talked about his cozy hangout with close friends to celebrate Silhouette's success. I wasn't really surprised by the progress; I've always had a knack for spotting talent, and once again, I was right.
Rashidi was still at home, but I couldn't really tell what he was up to. When it came time for lunch, I put in a lot of effort to steer clear of him, but he just wouldn't give me any space. Breakfast was calm since he wasn't there, and I reminded myself to stay out of the dining room until he left. This would only work if my mother allowed me some freedom. Our family wasn't perfect, and I wished she would stop trying so hard to make it seem otherwise. He wasn't my father, and he never saw me as his son; I felt the same way toward him. Why can't my mother let the past remain in the past? Why do we always feel compelled to chase after love and happiness?
After last night, my hatred for him had skyrocketed. There was nothing I wanted more than to get out of this shitty house; it was just a matter of time. I needed to make my own money if I wanted respect. Rashidi's decline didn't start the previous night, and it was never going to end.
Upon entering the sitting room, I was greeted by a sea of unknown faces. Nuchi was the only familiar one among them, but Jomil was nowhere to be found. The girls in the room were all strangers to me; I didn't recognize even one. The melodies played in the background were drowned out by the chatter of the guests in the living room. A glance at the DJ booth revealed a familiar face, and a faint smile emerged on my lips as I was eager to strike up a conversation with him.
"Roman." A voice I knew all too well called out to me, paired with a soft little tap.
"Aaliyah." I was surprised and called to her, then turned my full focus her way.
She shot me a smile while sort of stretching for her bag that was just tossed on the couch. Honestly, I was really surprised to see her there. Jomil never mentioned she'd be around, and she had even shortened our video sessions since she was super busy. So, to spot her at Jomil's get-together was unexpected, especially given their history; they've never really gotten along.
Although she has proved otherwise, ever since he released Silhouette, she had not stopped using the sound of TikTok, I told her even though it was just one video, we would be grateful, to my greatest surprise, she started promoting the song back to back, without asking for a dime.
"Hi, "She beamed at me, a huge grin on her face, and her fragrance wafted into my nose. Aaliyah smelled like something you could eat.
"Long time...,"
"No see," She cut me off giggling. "So, like, where did your friend go?" she probed.
I kinda figured she was talking about Jomil, since he's basically our only mutual friend.
"Okay, but how would you even ghost your own party?" She was super impatient, cutting me off like it was urgent, totally vibing as she had somewhere else to bounce to.
"Hold up, let me hit him up real quick."
"Chill, he just left his phone behind. I spotted it in his room." She responded killing our only option. Meanwhile, I wondered how he would disappear from his own party. He definitely didn't go far nor did it help that almost everyone in this room was unknown.
