Continuation.....

Seconds turned into minutes, and then minutes into hours. Karishma was now sitting on the same place, her back was leaning against the wall, staring at nothing in particular. She had sent Piya home as doctor said only one person was allowed to stay anyway, and Karishma couldn’t leave Haseena.

The hospital corridor was now suffocating her with its silence, every time she was looking here and there at the sound footsteps or murmured voices. She had lost count of how many times she had glanced at the clock. Time was moving painfully slow.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps approaching broke her trance. She looked up to see a stretcher being wheeled out, flanked by a nurse and the doctor.

“What happened? Her heart came to her throat as she scrambled to her feet.

The doctor gave her a calm look. “Nothing to worry about,” he reassured her. “We are shifting her to a room. In a few minutes, she’ll regain consciousness, and we’ll monitor for the last stage of rejection.”

Karishma let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding. She nodded her head. though she didn’t speak. Her eyes followed the stretcher as it disappeared down the hall and sat down again.

After some hours...

After what felt like an eternity, the doctor approached her again. Karishma immediately stood up, her voice rushing out, “What happened? What are the results?”

The doctor smiled, “Don’t worry. It’s successful. The time is over now and her body has accepted the transplant, and there’s no risk now. You can meet her in some time.”

The words hit Karishma like a wave. Relief flooded her system, and her knees nearly gave out beneath her. She stumbled back, finding the nearest chair, and collapsed onto it. Her ears rang, drowning out whatever else the doctor was saying. She didn’t need to hear anything more.

The only thing that mattered was that Haseena was fine. Fine and safe.

Her trembling hands pressed against her face as she let out a shaky breath, her body releasing all the tension it had been holding. For the first time in hours, her heart felt lighter.

After 30 minutes....

Haseena opened her eyes, the brightness of the room made her blink several times to adjust. She turned her head slightly to the left, then to the right slowly as she was still weak.

And then there her eyes stopped as she saw her.

Karishma’s face came into her view, and a soft smile graced Haseena’s lips despite the weight of exhaustion pressed her. Karishma was sitting beside her, her hands clenched together tightly, her eyes locked on Haseena with a relief and peace.

The moment Karishma noticed her eyes, she immediately leaned forward, and wrapped her fingers around her hand with such careful and delicate movement, as if afraid to hurt her, making haseena heart warm at such tenderness. She noticed Karishma’s swollen eyes and the redness around them an undeniable sign of how much she had cried.

Haseena lips curved into a smile but quickly replaced by a lines of concern. As Karishma’s eyes brimmed with tears again, the ones she had been holding back spilling over.

Karishma looked at haseena expression and quickly wiped them away with her back of her sleeves, and a small, reassuring smile formed on her lips as she said. "Hum theek han..."

But Haseena wasn’t convinced. With a small tilt of her eyebrows, she wordlessly asked, "What happened?"

Karishma shook her head again in no again while again wiping her tears and muffling her voice to stay strong or atleast look strong.
