A/N: Hello, long time since I've published, I know! I'm sorry for taking so long to continue this story. I have a lot going on now, and I don't know when I'm going to publish the next chapter, but I will do it! I hate it when an author doesn't finish their story, and I dare to believe that most of you thinks the same. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this chapter!
Have a good day,
Lulu!
"Good evening, Severus", Professor Albus Dumbledore's soft voice echoed in the dark corridor. Mary Montgomery, who was standing inside the personal chambers of none other than Hogwarts' Potions Master: Professor Severus Snape. Holding tightly onto the books Mary had panickily grabbed from the desk beside her, she thought tried to calm her breath.
"Evening, Albus", Severus responded, his voice sounding more stiff than usual, "And what do I owe this sudden visit, might I ask?"
Mary could hear Dumbledore chuckling, holding on to the air of silence before, to Mary's horror, he stepped inside the room.
Mary could feel her heart banging inside her chest, so hard, that she feared it might burst right through her ribcage. She glimpsed at Severus, whose dark eyes were speaking more than thousand wors. He was terrified.
"Miss Montgomery", Dumbledore began, his voice as soft a linen. He eyed Mary from behind his half-moon glasses, studying the scared look on Mary's trembling face.
"Interesting to see you here, especially at this hour", he continued, letting his blue eyes wander around the room, landing on the bed. Mary's eyes followed his gaze, and she realised that they had messed up. The bed was undone, giving away the true reason behind Mary's visit. Dumbledore was a wise man, and he had known Severus for years. He knew Severus was neat and he would not leave his bed undone.
"Although, I must admit that I am not surprised", Dumbledore added, taking a deep breath as he spoke, giving Severus a meaningful look. Awkwardly, Severus cleared his throat and turned the subject away from Mary and her presence at Severus' chambers in a questionable hour.
"So, Albus, what did you need to discuss about? Must have been urgent since you decided to bother me at this hour", Severus muttered, tilting his head towards the door, signalling Mary that perhaps it was time for her to leave. However, before Mary managed to take another step, Dumbledore stopped her.
"No need to run away, Miss Montgomery. Severus and I can continue our discussion in my office. You, however, should consider getting some sleep", Dumbledore suggested, a meaningful tone within his calm voice. "In your own bed."
Having said that, Dumbledore turned his heel and walked out of the room, signalling to both Mary and Severus that the conversation was over. For a quarter of a second, Severus glanced at Mary, an uninterpretable look in his dark onyx eyes. Then, Severus followed Dumbledore in the hallway.
Mary couldn't believe what has just happened. Dumbledore had nearly walked in on them. Doing that.
Mary froze.
She only now realized what would've happened if Dumbledore hadn't interrupted them. What might be happening on this very moment. And to her surprise, Mary couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed.
After another while of trying to understand what had happened, Mary shook her head and started to make her way out of Severus' room and towards the staircase at the end of the hallway. Slowly, as if her limbs were made out of iron, May climbed up the stairs, her eyes landing on the door that lead to the Slytherin common room. But as Mary reached the door, and was about to say the password, something stopped her.
"No", Mary said firmly, pulled her hand away from the doorknob and turned her face towards the hallway opening in front of her. And then, Mary started running.
