The morning air turned crisp, causing Mary and Clary's breath turn into clouds of fume as they made their way to the Potions classroom. With the Christmas coming closer and the dungeons turning into an icy nightmare, the student became even more reluctant to enter Severus' classroom.
"Would've thought that they found out a way to keep the classrooms warm during the winter", Clary mumbled as she and Mary entered the gloomy classroom of Professor Snape. "After all, they are one of the greatest witches and wizards of our age."
Mary hummed a cheery response but focused on eyeing if the feared Professor of Potions was already inside the classroom. Clary noticed Mary's eyes wandering around the space and couldn't help but giggle.
"Looking for your bad boy?" she asked and gave Mary a teasing push with her elbow. Mary rolled her eyes and was about to response, but before she could even open her mouth, she was cut off by a low, velvety voice.
"Miss Smith seems to be rather eager to get detention", Snape said, his tone unimpressed and annoyed.
Mary and Clary froze, realising that Snape had been walking right behind them. Quickly, they turned to face Snape, their faces as pale as the first snow.
Snape looked at them, raising an eyebrow as his eyes sifted from Clary to Mary. With an embarrassed blush creeping up her cheeks, Mary squeaked an apology along side with Clary. Only then, as a glimpse of a smirk visited Snape's lips, Mary noticed an amused glint in his dark eyes. For a moment, he eyed the two girls before giving a quick nod and walking past them without saying another word.
Although Severus hadn't seemed truly angry, Mary couldn't shake an uneasy feeling which was slowly growing inside her.
She would be hearing about this later.

The rest of the day went on peacefully, although Clary seemed to be rather jumpy after her encounter with the Potions Master in the morning. Alison, who seemed to be finding the situation hilarious, would on random occasions suddenly look shocked, staring behind Clary as if she's seen a ghost. Or in that case, Professor Snape.
"You're so easy to trick!" Alison would laugh before leaning in and giving Clary a tasing kiss on her cheek.
Although Mary was happy for her friends, a part of her ached every time they showed affection publicly. It wasn't necessarily because they did it, but moreover because Mary couldn't do it in her own relationship.
After watching Mary sighing and turning her head away the whole day, Alison rolled her eyes and placed her hand on Mary's shoulders.
"Alright", she started, giving Mary an understanding yet amused smile, "enough with the sulking."
Mary's eyes widened as she heard Alison's words, not understanding what the raven-haired girl was talking about.
"I'm not sulking!" Mary tried to defend herself, but Alison merely laughed at Mary's reaction.
"Go see him", she said, giving Mary a friendly pat.
Confused, Mary asked whatever Alison was talking about.
Alison rolled her eyes again and wrapped her arm around Mary.
"Oh darling Mary, do you think I am blind?" she started, shaking her head with a knowing smile on her lips. "Evey time I show even a slightest sign of affection towards Clary, you get all quiet and turn away."
Mary stared at Alison, unsure how to answer.
Had she been so obvious?
Noticing that Mary wasn't going to respond, Alison cupped Mary's cheeks with her cold hands and looked straight into her eyes.
"Go see him", she repeated.
Mary sighed and nodded. As much as she hated it, she had to admit that Alison was right. She was jealous. Clary and Alison can hold hands wherever they like. They can hug each other whenever they want to. They can kiss each other without a fear of being seen.
"Alright", Mary agreed, letting the heavy air escape her lungs.
Alison gave her a quick smile and gave her cheek a teasing stroke.
"Good girl", she said, her lips turning into a wicked smile.
"Who knows, maybe I'm not the only one saying that to you tonight."
With that, she turned away and headed towards the Girls' Chamber, leaving blushing Mary alone in the Common Room.

After pulling herself back together, trying to forget Alison's inappropriate comment, Mary made her way out of the Common Room. Although it was already late, she decided to try the Potions Classroom first.
Mary walked through the cold and dark corridors, following the familiar path to the Potions Classroom. When she reached her destination, she quickly checked her surroundings from any prying eyes, and after being sure that she was alone, she raised her fist and knocked. She waited for a while, but after knocking on the classroom door for a couple of times, Mary figured that Severus wasn't in there.
The thought that Mary would have to go and look for him from his personal chambers, made her nervous. She knew she had no reason to be worried, but after Alison's comment on her not being the only person calling Mary a "good girl" tonight, sent shivers down Mary's spine.
With a swift pace, Mary made her way back to the corridor in which the Slytherin Common Room was located, walked past the entrance and right to the back of the corridor. There, she ran down the stairs and walked through the corridor, landing in front of the door which opened to Severus' personal chambers.
Mary took a moment to calm herself down before raising her hand and knocking on the door. After a moment of silence, Severus opened the door. It was as if he had been expecting for Mary, because the moment he opened the door, he had a playful smirk on his lips.
"Come too see your bad boy?" he asked and leaned against the doorframe.
Mary's face turned hot red in the speed of light, her cheeks burning with embarrassment.
Seeing the reaction his words had on Mary, Severus chuckled, eyed the corridor to make sure they were alone and placed his index finger under Mary's chin.
The moment his finger touched Mary's skin, a cold shiver ran down her spine. Her eyes, now wide and uncertain, looked straight into Severus'.
With a low chuckle, Severus moved his hand along Mary's face, stopping on Mary's cheek where he gently placed the hand against her hot skin.
"You're adorable", he murmured before pulling away and letting Mary enter his room.
