Seungmin sits giddily, eating his breakfast in the lounge and watching reruns of his favourite sitcom on the TV.
He was actually in pretty ok shape considering all the chaos that he could recall from last night. Just a little self-deprecation over his own behaviour, and a slight headache but that was it.
He knew for a fact that he had Chan to thank for his physical health. He could remember the way Chan had looked after him despite everything. He'd drunk so much water that once Chan had dropped him off, he'd rushed inside to take a piss.
Thankfully his parents weren't in the lounge, so they hadn't seen him run into the coffee table on the way to the bathroom, and they must have been sleeping soundly because they hadn't asked him, since he woke up, as to why he'd gone to the toilet almost half hourly until at least 1 in the morning.
Seungmin looks over to his dad, who was currently sitting in his armchair and fiddling with his tablet, and then to his mother, who was dotting away at her puzzle book while she ate her toast. He really was grateful to them. They weren't strict like his friends had made their own parents out to be, just teasing if anything.
Introducing them wasn't any less burdensome on his mind, however. But he and Chan were dating now, Chan had deemed them boyfriends last night. So, they'd have to meet eventually, despite his worries.
Seungmin just hoped Chan didn't change his mind, given that he'd said earlier in the evening last night that he'd wait until after their third date to ask him out properly. It was practically in the rules from the beginning, and a part of Seungmin wondered whether Chan would jump to his senses and double back.
Uncertain as to what was to become of their relationship, Seungmin hadn't sent anything to Chan when he woke up this morning and consequently Chan hadn't sent anything either which was unsettling considering Chan had sent him at least one message each morning from the moment they'd started seeing one another.
Seungmin's feelings were itching under his skin, and two very important people who could likely soothe his worries were currently sitting with him, more than happy to listen. All he had to do was get over his nerves and ask.
Seungmin settles his plate down on the coffee table, sits up and clears his throat. "Mum? Dad?" he calls.
"Yes honey?" Mrs Kim, his mother, smiles as she looks up.
"Hmm?" Mr Kim, his father, questions.
"Chan and I we're-" Seungmin bites his lip and then spits it out. "I think we're dating now"
His parents exchange a glance.
"You think?" they both ask in unison.
Seungmin curls in on himself, very much aware of the fact that he was wearing Chan's hoodie, and that they knew it too. It was too late to turn back. He wanted their opinion, so he mustered his courage to continue.
"Last night before Chan drove me home, we were having an important conversation about our- um, relationship, and Chan kind of went: I'm yours, and I have no plans of going anywhere unless it's with you, my boyfriend." Seungmin paraphrases in a Chan-like voice. "And then he told me he wanted to kiss me, but wasn't going to and then we went home." Seungmin burrows down into the couch in defeat as his parents eyeball him.
"Honey, why wouldn't he want to kiss you?"
Seungmin rolls his eyes. "That's what you took from that?"
"Well son, your mother has a point, no matter how he asks, a partner is still a partner and given what your mother's told me, he had no problems in kissing you the other day on our front porch"
Both of them eye him and Seungmin puffs out from his nose is discontent before anxiety tightens his throat. Seungmin averts his gaze as he looks down at his hands.
"I may have had a little to drink last night with Chan's friends, annnnd I might have been a bit- out of it? CHAN TOOK CARE OF ME THOUGH!" Seungmin finishes, throwing in that last bit at a loud reassuring volume.
Both his parents look at each other once more and Seungmin squints annoyed at how they were doing that thing where they communicate with just their eyes, a silent language Seungmin could never understand.
"Well, there's your answer son, he didn't want to kiss you because you were drunk," his father hums in approval.
"Quite gentlemanly of him if I do say so myself," his mother adds.
"What was the problem again?" His father then asks, a single eyebrow raised in question.
Seungmin face plants into a pillow. "He didn't ask me out, he declared we were dating and now he hasn't messaged me since"
His parents look at each other. Again.
"Well, you do want to date him properly, don't you?" his mother asks.
"Of course!"
"Well, did you message him to tell him that?" his father queries.
Seungmin sways to ease the tension. "Nooo?"
His mother closes her eyes and shakes her head all-knowingly. "Well, did you think maybe he was waiting for you to say something? By the sounds of it, he probably feels awkward for labelling your relationship when and how he did."
"You two care about one another a lot; practically partners already, in my eyes," his father adds, gesturing at Chan's hoodie. "So, I don't really think the way he went about things should be a point to get hung up on. He no doubt likes you and you like him. Not all relationships require a big song and dance to get started. Save that for the proposal." His father then finishes with a chuckle.
Seungmin rolls his eyes as his mother moves to sit on the arm of the armchair his father sat on. "To me it sounds like he's waiting for you to take the lead. He made his declaration of love and now you need to make yours."
Seungmin looks in on himself. A declaration? Like changing his status? Inviting Chan to meet his friends? Seungmin honestly had no idea, and as he looks back up to his parents to prompt for more, he finds them already having their own conversation, like his problems were suddenly solved, and they had nothing more to say.
Seungmin puffs out in defeat, he wasn't sure he was completely satisfied with that conversation, but it had gone better than he'd thought, even if his parents hadn't quite grasped his struggles.
Seungmin stands up, maybe Chan just wasn't awake and he was overthinking things. Maybe he should be the one to message first like his parents suggested.
Seungmin turns towards the kitchen, his thoughts bouncing in his head, when the doorbell rings.
"I'll get it" Seungmin smiles, encouraging his parents to stay put. It was probably just a door salesman or the postman dropping off a parcel.
As Seungmin swings open the door though he does not find a door salesman or the postman. But instead, he finds Chan.
Seungmin's body freezes and his eyes go wide.
"Chan?!"
"H-Hey Seungmin"
