Younghyun felt like the worst friend to exist on the planet.
When Seungkwan had introduced Seungmin as the guy Chan was seeing, it came as a punch to the gut. Chan was seeing someone?! SINCE WHEN?!?
Chan was close to the other guys, but he'd always thought of himself to be the closest to Chan. To be honest, Chan had even expressed his appreciation and gratitude for their close friendship over the time he'd known the older. They were mates, two peas in a pod, best buds. So how did he not know?!
It was at times like these he realised that Chan was still a very secretive person when it came to matters of the heart.
Even Chan's relationship with Yugyeom had been something Chan kept closely guarded. He'd been meeting up with him in secret for so long after they'd met. By the time Younghyun had caught onto him he'd written Yugyeom off as just a mate he was catching up with. But eventually, Yugyeom had shown up, apologising for not introducing himself sooner, and asking for help on what Chan his boyfriend might like for his birthday, and suddenly Younghyun was left pretending like he knew all along.
Despite knowing how secretive Chan could be on such topics, Younghyun still wished he had been the first to know, and maybe he would have if he hadn't followed Daniel and Subin down to the bar to keep an eye on them, maybe then he wouldn't have heard about his best friend's relationship, second hand from Seungkwan.
After Daniel and Subin had, later, left for the dance floor, Younghyun was determined not to follow them yet again and miss out on any details, he pledged at that moment to stay by Seungmin's side. Plus, if this was the guy Chan liked, it felt like his duty as best friend to get to know him.
It amazed Younghyun that the boy was so young, but he had no issues with the younger's age, Seungmin was 18, an adult for all intents and purposes and if that's who Chan liked then he'd support him. It's not like Chan was doing anything illegal; give it a couple years and no one would bat an eyelash.
As he'd spoken with Seungmin though, Younghyun came to realise just how close they were, how well they knew each other already, and although he didn't intend to nor was it really his place, he couldn't help but compare Chan's relationship with Seungmin to his relationship with Yugyeom. Seungmin was not someone new he'd met at a bar, he was someone Chan had history with, although kinda strange considering Seungmin had dated Chan's little brother of all people. Like Yugyeom, Chan had kept Seungmin a secret; even longer than he ever had for Yugyeom, but considering the circumstances, he didn't entirely begrudge him for it.
Sitting before Seungmin, watching the boy smile bashfully, and cutely brag as he spoke of Chan, Younghyun could see why he was smitten. As Younghyun grasped their evident shared feelings, he just felt all the worse for getting Seungmin wasted.
Although Younghyun hadn't been the only one buying him drinks, he knew for a fact he had been the one to tip the boy over the scales. He shouldn't have assumed the smaller could hold his liquor just because he was 18, he should have looked out for him and got him some water instead of filling him with more drinks, expecting him to just keep up.
The damage had been done before he'd realised though, and trying to keep Seungmin at bay as he bounded down to the dance floor was all on him.
Younghyun knew as soon as he'd met Chan's eyes up on stage that he'd fucked up, and seeing how determinedly he'd scolded each one of their friends just drove home how important Seungmin was. It's why Younghyun decided when he woke up this morning that he was going to have to take drastic measures to get back into Chan's good books.
So, he'd jumped in his car first thing after breakfast and he'd shown up at the Bang-Yang household with all intents and purposes of apologising.
It had been Jeongin to let him in, the boy was actually on the way out to his weekend job. The younger had said Hello and Goodbye and pointed Younghyun in the direction he needed to go.
So Younghyun had walked to his best friend's room, taking matters into his own hands as he flung the door open. What he did not expect to find though, was Chan lying on his back, a pillow to his face and for him to be making some weird muffled screaming sounds.
Was he in pain? Having a mental breakdown? Younghyun wasn't sure, but there was one way to find out.
"Chan?" Younghyun questions.
