"So how does my husband feel after our first trip?" Chan laughs from the passenger seat. "Because I really did enjoy the time I spent with my husband on our honeymoon"
Seungmin grips the wheel and looks over at Chan. "Oh shut up Channie," he says playfully.
Chan cackles and takes a mouthful from his water bottle he was keeping in the cup holder. Seungmin was driving them home since Chan had been the one to drive them there.
Seungmin lets the silence linger to soften the humour of Chan's teasing. "I enjoyed myself"
"Baby you enjoyed yourself a lot, very much so!"
Seungmin rolls his eyes, a fool to think that Chan wouldn't make another joke.
This time it's Chan who breaks the moment of silence that follows. "I had a great time too. I've never spent time like this with anyone before, but I'm glad I got to share it with you."
"Me too"
Seungmin feels the butterflies flutter in his chest. Chan was no stranger to the fact that this was a new experience for him too. It was nice to be able to step into this new chapter together. They'd made leaps and bounds once again in such a small amount of time.
Although it had been a sprint, those few seconds they'd spent this morning were a testament to their compatibility. Without words they had gotten into the shower together, done what needed to be done and then they were out, packing up their room together. Maybe, just maybe Seungmin was beginning to understand those glances his parents gave one another, that silent love language that had always baffled him. Because Seungmin was sure he and Chan were writing their own language, the small mannerisms and shared tells; a new unspoken private lexicon between them.
Seungmin relaxes his hand on the steering wheel. "Next time, we should really insist on a bigger bed, and not take no for an answer. I bet you that uptight old woman probably had at least one room with a double," Seungmin mutters.
"Agreed. I will literally walk us out and drive us somewhere else just to enjoy that small luxury," Chan pouts.
Seungmin smiles, his eyes still kept on the road ahead.
The journey home is long, but they break it up this time, stopping at the first rest stop cafe they come across to grab some breakfast. The stale muffin Chan had found in his glove box was in no way appetising.
"I wish our trip didn't have to end so soon," Seungmin finds himself saying as familiar buildings begin to roll into sight, signalling they were mere minutes from their homes. The morning had flown by, midday very much upon them.
Chan hums sadly, and Seungmin looks over, feeling sad too as he sees Chan's solemn expression as he looks down at his phone. They had settled into a comfortable silence over the past half hour, Chan playing with his phone now the internet had come back and Seungmin listening to Chan's music he'd plugged into the car's speakers.
The mood between them was constricting, so constricting that when Chan finally speaks, Seungmin almost jumps out of his skin.
"What if we don't go home just yet?" Chan asks.
Seungmin grips the wheel and looks over at Chan briefly. "You mean extend our trip? It's a bit late for that isn't it, we're miles from Dream Springs"
Chan shakes his head gently, and then nods and then shakes his head again. Conflicted in his next words to say the least. "I don't mean: extend our time at Dream Spring, I mean we go somewhere else. Do you think your parents would be ok if I kept you a little longer?"
Seungmin's hands loosen around the wheel, and he looks over to Chan again once they are seated at a light. "I'm sure my parents will have their comments, but they won't say no..."
"Does that mean you say yes?" Chan asks, sitting up in his chair. Seungmin's lips pull at the corners at seeing Chan so eager to keep him at his side.
"Of course I'm a Yes!! I don't think one night is enough when I still have a whole two weeks ahead of me. When the next school term starts, I know it's going to be the busiest one yet, so I am more than happy to take the opportunity to spend another whole day with you, and then some. Did you have somewhere in mind?"
Seungmin expects Chan to suggest a bnb since he'd mentioned a while back that he thought going to motels felt cheap, or maybe a hotel since they offered more dedicated holiday space. But Chan chooses neither, in fact he doesn't pick anything at all.
"Do you trust me?" Chan asks instead, confusing Seungmin.
"Of course!"
"Then turn right, at the next roundabout. Because I have a spot"
