Chan was making a big leap, a huge leap. He was jumping out of a plane without a parachute, into a dark chasm below. It scared the shit out of him knowing he might lose Seungmin in the darkness if he wasn't careful.
Except, deep down, he knew that wouldn't be the case. Seungmin was his light, his guiding star.
Chan questions his own voice as he gives Seungmin directions, his heart pounding as he looks at the marker on the map of his phone.
Was he doing this? Was he really leading Seungmin here?
Seungmin wasn't watching the map, he was none the wiser. He could easily change his mind and lead him elsewhere. Another cafe or a burger place, perhaps? Maybe he could come up with a joke, then they could eat like usual and after, Chan could actually drop the boy he loves home.
No.
Chan couldn't do that. He didn't want to do that. The reward was truly greater than the risk.
"Do I get a hint where you're leading me?" Seungmin questions.
Chan shakes his head, scared to even speak just in case Seungmin guessed where they were going.
Seungmin's face drops.
Chan looks at his phone. "Sorry. We're almost there though- just one more turn and then you can find a parking space"
Seungmin sighs and nods his head, his confusion evident on his features.
Just as Chan suggested, they round the corner and Seungmin finds a parking space on the side of the road. Chan gets out and Seungmin meets him on the footpath next to the car.
The road that stretched either side of them was long, and curved some ways away in the distance. On one side of the street regular suburban town houses sat and on the other, the side they were on, low rise-apartments stood together in idle rows.
It was quiet, being the middle of the day, but signs of life were teeming everywhere. A meow of a cat, the distant lull of traffic and chatter, a dog barking. The buildings themselves weren't barren either. Plants sat on balconies and towels overhung railings. It was a domestic kind of peace.
Chan clicks open his boot and passes Seungmin his bag before grabbing his own.
"So where to now?" Seungmin questions. "Are you sure it's not a bnb? I don't see any hotels around, we're pretty close to Yellow Wood though, now I think of it. Most of these places are probably filled with students"
Chan's lips quirk, but he quickly pulls them back down before Seungmin sees. Reveal nothing.
"Just trust me ok, and please tell me at any point if you don't want to stay. I won't be upset with you"
Seungmin reaches forwards, grabbing Chan's hand with a squeeze. "I highly doubt that I could ever be upset over spending time with you-"
Chan cuts in, stopping Seungmin's words. "I don't mean like that. This place I'm bringing you to, you might not want to stay... and that's ok."
Seungmin furrows his brows, but he gives another squeeze, encouraging Chan to move forwards, and he does. Chan looks at his phone, at some details he had saved. He'd only been to this place half a dozen times, and the majority of those times had been within the past week.
Chan takes a deep breath as he leads Seungmin to a small complex, and punches in a code at the iron gate outside.
He looks over his shoulder at Seungmin, at his hand in his and then ahead. Seungmin follows him as he leads him up an outdoor staircase. The place they were going to was only on the second floor of the complex. Like all the buildings on this side of the street it was small and in no way overbearing, it was homey, it was safe.
