after leaving his friends house and taking estelle back to his own, the pair hung out there for a couple hours whilst they agreed to go out for dinner before she was on her way back to arizona late that night.
getting ready for something a little more casual than the last restaurant they went to, then heading off in his car with her bags already packed and in the trunk.
now sat across from each other at the table with their food already ordered, zach had a smile across his face as he listened to her babble on about her plans for the week ahead. every so often softly humming and nodded to show that he was in fact listening.
"i wish you could just stay here though," he replied. "you can still do all the same things.. just in la instead.."
"i wish," she softly sighed.
"why can't you? do you like living in arizona more?"
"not necessarily," she softly shook her head. "it's just.. my life is there.. my family's there, my friends' are there.. just everything.."
"but i'm not there," he playfully smirked. "is that not enough to convince you?"
"well.. yeah- but-"
"can i ask how did we match, if you're there and i'm here?" he questioned as he politely interrupted her. "were you here swiping and found my account or what?"
"no.. i- i'd get the passport subscription and set it too a major city- cause that's my dream, my dream is to live in major city. then, i'd think about how i'm wasting money on it and cancel it, just to cycle back to it a few months later," she sighed.
"so do you wanna live here?"
"i mean, i do, yeah," she nodded. "well if we're talking big cities, preferably new york, that really peaks my interest more. but also here's a lot closer to home and probably a little more possible.."
"where do you prefer, here or new york?"
"i've never been to new york," she softly shook her head.
"mh.. where have you been to?"
"here like four times.. home, obviously.. and aspen for a week like five years ago," she explained. "but i do really want to travel more, just the opportunity hasn't been there yet.."
"did you go skiing in aspen?"
"mhm- well i didn't really do much, more went to spend time with.. my friend who really wanted to."
"like a old friend or something?" zach received a furrow from the girl. "how come you didn't know what to call them..?"
"oh- i- i don't know.. but it was my friend," she reassured. "it was me, her, her boyfriend, and her family."
"so you third wheeled them?" he chuckled.
"no, she wanted us both there," she slightly stumbled on her words as she thought more about the trip. "and he's very sweet and never made it all about them.."
"mh, right. well did you enjoy it?"
"yeah, i didn't mind it," she subtly shrugged. "i'm not very big on skiing and snowboarding, but i do like the snow."
"if you like big cities, and you're okay with snow, you'd probably like new york then," zach replied. "but what interests you now that you've met me?"
"well.. in my dream fantasy world, i'm an author, living in cutesy rustic style new york apartment in my twenties with a loving boyfriend, before moving away from the city rush and settling down in our thirties in like a smaller, neighbourhood town," she babbled.
"cute," he softly smiled at the girl.
"but like reality wise, i don't think i could ever afford to do that, and also la's very expensive, like if i were to move here it'd have to be somewhere like an hour or so from the city, where it's more affordable."
"that doesn't really answer my question.." he more so teased. "not thinking about money and how realistic it is, would you now rather live in new york or la, where i am?"
"well, i will always want to live in new york at one point of my life, but if la is the only option to be with you, then probably here."
"you don't sound like you wanna live here," he chuckled. "is it that bad compared to arizona? am i about to fall in love with phoenix when i go?"
"no- no- i mean you might enjoy it there, but i just.. i can't help but think realistically, and think about how my parents probably won't agree, and how i don't think i could afford it, and then of course- not saying it's one hundred precent going to happen, but what if this goes no where.."
"i wouldn't fly to phoenix for anyone, ess."
".. what's that suppose to mean?"
"i like you," he simply stated with a small chuckle. "i do want this to go somewhere."
"mh," estelle softly hummed, picking up her glass and taking a sip as she tried to hide her smile.
".. so speaking of me going to phoenix, what would like for your birthday?"
"i don't- you being there is enough."
"c'mon, you deserve something.. even if it's not like a unwrap sort of gift." he then listed off some ideas; "do you want me to book a hotel so we can have time, just us? do you want me to shout your next trip here?"
"you paid for my trip this time though.."
"that doesn't count," he brushed it off. "i was being selfish and wanted you here with me, it's not being written off as your birthday present."
"okay.. well i don't really mind what you decide to do.. i'm not really the biggest fan of gifts, so i don't mind if you don't get me one's ... like i said.. you being there is enough," she babbled.
"alright, but i am gonna get you something," he added before turning his attention to the waiter as he brought over their meals.
