arriving home from now the third different girl he's gotten with since estelle's trip to visit him, zach still couldn't get her out of his mind even now four nights later.
he chucked his car keys down on his desk and kicked off his shoes before crouching down to his mini fridge and grabbing out a white claw can, then sitting down on the edge of his bed.
his thoughts running back and forth on what to do about the girl over in arizona as he downed now his third alcoholic beverage of the night.
he knew he needed to call her. like he'd been told by his friends already, even if he doesn't want to progress things he still needs to talk it through with her. he can't just simply ghost her especially after getting her to travel hours to him.
zach soon let out a sigh and picked up his phone. ignoring the time of 11:35pm — honestly not even thinking about it — and scrolled through, found the girl's contact and called her.
and it took almost the whole ring cycle for her to answer with a very sleepy; "hello?"
"fine phoenix. you win." was all he replied in a every so slightly slurred tone.
".. what do i win..?" estelle replied, still very confused about the sudden contact.
"i've tried to move on from you cause long distance is fucking annoying, i've stopped talking to you, i've gotten with other girls, but i still just can't seem to get you out of my mind," he subtly huffed. "i like you, okay?"
"okay.."
"well.. do you like me?"
"i mean i do.." she feeling into slight silence for a second as she took a breath and openingly continued with; "but i don't like how you've just ignored me since i left and now calling me at almost midnight to say that you've been getting with other girls to try and forget me.. but i need to forgive you for that just because you like me?"
"it's not almost midnight-" he said while pulling his phone away, quickly cutting himself off as he read the time. "oh, it is.. sorry.. i'll let you sleep then."
"no, it's okay.."
"i am sorry ess. and you don't have to forgive me for ignoring you this week but i really hope you do because i really do want to try with you. like i keep saying, there's just something about you that interests me. and i think doing.. anything with you is worth it.."
"okay.. b- but you know i can't be coming to la constantly..? i've school here and i've got my jobs.. i can't- i can't just be expected to always be the one to travel and take time off."
"i know," he quickly nodded to himself. "like my friends said, i don't really have anything to do here- or at least not as much as you do there, so i can come visit you too, check out the desert."
"i've told you, it's a normal city here," she quietly giggled.
"i know ess, i'm just messing with you," he laughed. ".. i do hate long distance, but i think this.. whole thing could be fun.. since i'm not on tour and it's easier to be together.. so i think i'll enjoy it more."
"it could be fun," estelle agreed. "i'm sure there's heaps you could find for us to do there, and there's some fun things here we could do-"
"i want to go to a college party," he interrupted her in excitement. "they seem like fun."
"there's not really like the movies just so you know," she chuckled.
"i'm sure they'll still be a good time."
"okay.."
"also.. the other night i didn't mean to call the tourist things you want to do shit- i mean, i did, but i also wouldn't mind doing them with you.."
"okay.. well i would still like to do those things.."
"well that's an excuse for you to come here again then."
".. i don't think it can be anytime soon though," she sighed. "i just need some time to figure out when i can take time off and-"
"hey, phoenix, it's fine, you don't need to stress about it right now," he cut her off. "all i care about right now is that i'm able to talk to you again. i really do enjoy talking to you."
"i enjoy talking to you too," she spoke through a small yawn.
"i'll let you go now, ess.. let you get some sleep, but it's nice talking to you again and we'll talk tomorrow, okay? i promise."
