now as the final few days of summer break were here, unlike her friends and fellow college classmates who were out enjoying them partying, estelle was at home, propped up in bed in bed pyjamas, her small lamp on, set on finishing reading her lovely-dovey book before she needed to get stuck back into all her nursing ones.
this was a usual for her. granted, she did go out with her few friends on the occasional night once a month, if that. but taking everything into account, she was never one for partying or getting drunk, she just liked the company and knew the social interaction was good for her mental health.
maybe it was the fact that she was still living at home with her parents and she just felt weird bringing it up. maybe it was that she wasn't exactly the closest with those she called her 'friends'. or maybe it was just she preferred getting lost in the imagination of life inside all the romance books.
and despite reading all about it, she hadn't had must experience in the love department herself.
she longed for those feelings. the feeling of being in love. the feeling of being touched. the feeling of being kissed by someone who adored her as much as she did them.
she wanted all of it.
but at the same time, she hated the process.
the couple guys that had hit on her while out, who, although things never got to that point, she could tell only really wanted something for the night. which on deterred her away from the interactions, because why would she want to waste her time with a guy like that if that wasn't what she wanted.
then in everyday life, the slightly shy, gaze kept down side of her stopped her from seeming approachable. and the one time she had someone come up to her, she was quick to note his friends laughing at the boy which made her feel like it was all a joke.
maybe i'm bound to be single forever
flipping over to the next page, the sound of her phone dinging which she thought had already been switched to do not disturb broke her pace. picking the device up from the bedside table, she sighed at the notification.
tinder.
one of the two dating apps her friends made her download at the start of summer.
it wasn't that she had anything against the platforms. she actually kind of like the idea of being able to meet someone and get to know them over text without having it be awkward in person.
she definitely preferred hinge due to the profiles needing more information, subconscious making it "easier" to find someone she preferred. but since she did want to move out of arizona to a big city, that was her dream, so she liked the distance feature that tinder had — she didn't price for it though considering the return.
it was just all the conversations were the same.
the simple 'hey' or even 'hi' greeting, followed by 'how are you' and the respected answers to conclude the messages. she couldn't understand how people could get to marriage from that.
but still she'll go on it every so often, when she remembered about the apps that is. she found it rather fun swiping through all the guys' profiles. she what they were like and the things they get up to.
reading over the notification; 'you have possible matches waiting' for a second time, she caved. placing her bookmark on the page that was being separated by her thumb, she then set the book on her bedside table before switching off the lamp.
she finally laid down in bed and got comfortable as she unlocked her phone and opened the app
