My throat became dry and it became difficult to swallow. My heart felt like it just broke into a thousand pieces and into my stomach. I inhaled and walked up to my locker where the girls back was on.

"Excuse me. My locker is here, if you don't mind I would like to open it please." I said my jaw tightening. The girl whose arms were around Austin was really pretty and that made me even more jealous. Her light blonde, long curls fell down to her waist and her sparkling blue eyes pierced through your skin when she made eye contact with you. That's if she even made eye contact with you. She scanned me up and down making a dusguisted face at what she saw. She rolled her eyes and put her full body on Austin as they backed away from my locker.

"Hey Brooke! Goodmorning!" Austin called out to me with a bright white smile and waving to me. The girl pulled his toward her so he would have her attention and not Brooke's.

"Hey.." I replied even though I wasn't in the mood to talk to him at all right now. I reached for the dial and turned it to the first number. I heard whispering behind me and I knew it was Austin and that girl. I glanced over my shoulder and the blonde girl's eyes were on me. She saw me looking at her, grabbed Austin by his neck and kissed him. Right. In front of me. She was doing it on purpose and I knew it.

"Okay baby I've got to go to class now, I'll see you later honey. Love you Austin." She said in a bitchy tone of voice. She gave him another kiss and strutted off in her high heels. As soon as she turned the corner into the main hallway, Austin came stood next to me behind my locker door, watching me as I put unimportant books in my inside.

"Hey Brooke! Sorry about that... Scarlett can sometimes be really mean around people who are a threat to her. In fact... she can be really mean to anyone. Don't let her get to you." Austin stated as I shut my locker furiously.

"Then why are you dating her?" I asked as I began to walk towards the main hallway.

"She makes me happy and I really like her. Are you mad at me?" He asked stopping to turn and look at me.

"I'm not mad Austin, I just wish you would have told me sooner."

"I know, I'm sorry but I didnt think that it would matter." he said.

"Whatever.. um.. can you show me to my homeroom class?" I asked him.

"Sure let me see your schedule." Austin held out his hand and I gently placed the folded white piece of paper in his possession. His eyes carefully scanned the wording then smiled up at me.

"Looks like you have Mrs. Lee with me for homeroom. I'll walk with you to class." He pronounced as I fell into step with him.

As we neared the classroom I took a deep breath in to relax myself. I knew that all the kids were going to stare at me in confusion to who I was. So I had to be mentally and physically ready for the students that are going to be in the class. Austin noticed me getting nervous so he slowly placed his hand in mine and smiled at me, telling me everthing is going to be okay.

Austin and I walked in together confidently as he lead me to where he normally sits. I sat my backback down and flopped down in the seat. Conversations of all different types were going on in all parts of the room. Everyone was organized into their own group of friends or "cliques" as high schools would say. The jocks in one table, nerds in one, drama freaks in the other. Then there were the normals, where Austin and I sat. Austin began a discussion with one of the boys across from him about the recent basketball game. I on the other hand decided on taking mental notes of those around me.

There was a few girls who I might want to get to know and befriend but there was one girl sitting all by herself in the very back of the room. Her curly red hair was pulled back into a low ponytail and she looked at me with her light brown eyes that glistened. Her skin was pale but she had soft pink cheeks that made her beautiful. She smiled at me and I noticed that she had braces fit her well. She got up and began walking towards me. When she reached my seat she stuck her hand out and spoke.

"Hi I'm Renee! Nice to meet you! You'll love it here at Lady Bird High School! It's so much fun... especially when you hang out with me." She laughed a cute kinda nerdy giggle. I introduced myself and after discussing the basics, she walked back to her seat. The tardy bell rang, followed by a click on the intercom. A man's voice came over the speaker, I'm guessing who was the principle, and he said a few morning announcements. After the principle signed off, my teacher, Mrs. Lee, began calling roll call. When an unfamiliar name came along her eyes widen then scanned the room for a matching unfamiliar face. When she spotted me she beckoned me to stand and I obeyed.

"Girls and boys attention! This is our new student, Brooke Mitchell!" I felt 30 pairs of eyes on me. Judging me. Shyly, I turned 360 degrees and then sat down. Everyone was looking at me and some were making comments under their breath about me thinking I wouldnt be able to hear them, which I did. After a few minutes they went back to their own important converstations about their "interesting" lives.

"Hey Brooke, would you like to go with me and a few others to a party at Ryan's house Friday?" Austin asked with excitement in his voice.

"Tomorrow?" I asked

"Yea! Come on! It will be really fun! Please?" He asked dragging his 'please' out an extra long time.

"Sure! Will Scarlett be there?" I asked praying inside that he would say no.

"Nah. She doesn't really like Ryan because she thinks his parties are uneventful." he laughed a very cute laugh and smiled at me.

"Oh okay. Then yea I'll go."

"Okay! Can't wait! I'll pick you up at 7 at your house!" As soon as he finished his sentence the bell rang releasing us from homeroom. Austin bolted out of the class so fast I didn't even get a chance to say bye.

I looked down a the floor beginning to feel light as I walked out the door. I began blushing at the thought of me and Austin together at a fun party. Butterflies began to form in my stomach just thinking about the oppurtunties awaiting.

I knew I shouldn't be thinking these things because Austin is dating Scarlett. It kind of breaks my heart knowing I will never have a chance with him. But I thought positive about tomorrow. Excitement soon took over my emotions as I let out a quiet squeal that only I could hear.

I skipped out of the classroom doorway with a huge smile on my face. I felt a hard tug on the back of my backpack that sent my flying backwards. When my feet finally caught up, I balanced myself and quickly turned around to see who was the suspect was. I stood staring into piercing blue eyes that felt like could kill me at any minute.

I was face to face with Scarlett.
