After I sent the message to Austin, my stomach began fluttering with excitement. I allowed Renee to drive to her house since I was so tired already. My dad already said yes so now we are on pins and needles awaiting Renee's parents decision.
We pulled up into the driveway and slowly climbed out the car. We were both so nervous to get the answer as we walked up to the front door. Renee took out her key from her purse and entered it in the hole, opening the door.
"Mom? Dad? It's me Renee and Brooke." she called into the dark living room. With a flick of the switch, the whole living room was illuminated. Renee made her way to the couch and plunged down and I awkardly followed. A few minutes later we heard footsteps descending from the stairs.
"Renee? What's wrong sweetie?" called Renee's mom as she neared us on the couch, followed by her husband.
"Oh nothing's wrong I was just wondering if we could chat for a little." Renee said.
"Of course! Hi Brooke how are you?" They said in unision.
"Hello. I'm fine thank you." I responded with a smile even though I was panicking inside.
"So honey what did you want to talk about?" Renee's dad questioned. I grabbed a strand of my hair and begain braiding it over and over again due to nervousness.
"Uh.. So you know how Austin is back from Miami?" she asked.
"Oh yes! How is he doing?"
"He's good. But um. He asked for Brooke to join him back in Miami with him and his mother."
"That's wonderful! Are you excited?" The attention turns to me and I am cut off gaurd.
"What? Sorry." I laughed at my miscommunication.
"Are you excited to live with Austin?"
"Yes! Very excited but also very nervous." I admitted.
"I bet! I'm suprised your father let you. It's a huge decision! But then again you are old enough." Renee's mother said. Her father was the quiet one.
"So mom I was wondering if I can.. go as well.." Renee blurted out.
"No." Her father said without hesitation. Renee's eyes grew wide at his answer. My mouth dropped open in astonishment. Even her mother looked at him with suprise.
"Wha-" is all that came out of her mouth.
"I said no and that's final."
"Dad. Please! I will be with Brooke and Michele! I will be fine!" She exclaimed.
"Renee. I said no. There's no way you're flying all the way to Florida with a boy!"
"AND MY BEST FRIEND!" she raised her voice with anger. "BROOKE'S DAD LET HER! WHY CANT YOU!"
"Don't you raise your voice at me! And if her father want's her to go across the country with an unresponisble boy who will probably cheat on her or have sex with her and leave then good for him! I'm not letting my child do that!" My mouth dropped to the floor. I can't believe he just said that, right in front of me.
"MOM TELL HIM SOMETHING!" she yelled, turning to her mother.
"It is not a very good idea honey.."
"MOM! PLEASE! I REALLY WANT TO GO!"
"I'm sorry sweetie." Tears began flowing down Renee's face. With a quick second she ran upstairs, covering her face, crying.
I followed her upstairs, tearing up myself at her father's comment. We raced into her room, slamming the door behind us. She sat on her bed and continued to cry into her hands. I slowly sat beside her and rubbed her back in attempt to comfort her.
"I am so sorry you had to witness all that." She said calming her sobbs.
"It's honestly okay. My dad gets that way too sometimes."
"It's not okay though. What my father said was uncalled for and I apologize for that. I wish I could've gone with you. It would've been so fun. My parent's just cant see my passions for things. For example there is this annual singing competition Nashville and I have always wanted to go but my parent's say it's not a stable career. That's why they don't really like Austin."
"That's horrible. I'm sorry! If I would've known I could have taken you. When is it?"
"It's next month. and it's okay they wouldn't have let me go with you either. They just don't understand me."
I had no idea what to say next, so we sat there in silence. I felt my phone vibrate on my lap and looked down to read the message.
"Can't wait to see your beautiful face tomorrow <3" it read. A smile formed across my face as I read it over and over again.
"Whose making you blush through a bright screen?" She questioned.
"Austin." I laughed.
"Have fun in Miami with him. Be smart. I don't want you to come back pregnant or anything." We both burst out into laughter.
"I promise!" we continued laughing as we made up impossible situations. "Well I better go home so I can pack."
"Okay.." I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tight.
"I'm going to miss you."
"I'm going to miss you too. Be careful." I slowly stood up and waved her goodbye. I made my way downstairs, hoping that I wouldn't run into her parents. As I reached the front door I am glad they aren't there. I softly opened the door and exited. I started my car and made my way back to my house. I imangined going back home from Renee's house with Renee and screaming with joy; not driving alone.
