"Can we please have debates again, Ms. Narwin?" Evelyn asks.
I pout. "Pretty please."
She sighs. "Siyana, we already had a debate yesterday. We'll fall behind on the curriculum."
"Who cares? Like, this will actually be helping us." Leah argues.
"Additionally," I tuck my hair behind my ear. "It will be benefiting our careers and will actually be helpful. Please? Also, today, we'll be having a reading lesson and spelling tests. I read 34 books last terms, Ms. Narwin. I bet I'll read atleast 20 books this term too."
Evelyn stares me down. "I haven't read 34 books in my entire lifetime, girl."
I shrug.
"Fine, but read properly for 20 minutes okay?" She gives in.
Leah asks. "Is it boys against girls again?"
"Nope, we'll have teams Ryvita and Lays." The fuck?
I walk back to my table, where Ava is absent and I'm alone with Zayn and Malik.
Just my fucking luck.
"Why debates?" Malik groans.
"Don't worry, Malik. It won't be boys versus girls this time." He grins as a determined look washes over his face.
"Good, now we actually have a chance of winning."
I sigh, "What's so bad about you guys?"
He rolls his eyes. "None of these fuckers know shit about debate and they are not competitive enough."
"But we are, aren't we?"
He arches an eyebrow. "We? I thought you hated us collectively or grouped together."
"I thought the sa-"
"Siyana! Malik! Get back to reading." Ms. Narwin screams.
Oh shit.
"Yeah, lovebirds."
Zayn snickers. "I have to witness this PDA right in front of my eyes. Can I get bleach?"
"Fuck off." I glare at him.
"I won't." He challenges.
"Askut, Zizu." (Shut up, Zayn)
He shuts up.
After around 15 minutes of reading, Ms. Narwin announces the debate teams and statement.
"The topic will be that if golden time should be continued after elementary school?"
"Siyana, Malik, David, Tyke, Eliana, Hijana, Daniel, Aarav, Aya and Omar E are on team Ryvita. While, Leah, Zayn, Habeel, Asher, Hailey, Jennie, Sinamika, Damien, Pedro and Omar I are on Team Lays. The team captains are-"
"Siyana!" David exclaims.
I grit my teeth and hiss at him. "Can we not?"
"The team captains will be the Omar's of each team respectively. Let's go." She claims.
Me and Malik share a 'what the actual fuck?' look and we begin.
"Everyone gather around here. Liste-"
Tyke furrows his eyebrows and speaks. "Isn't Omar the captain?"
