When they arrived back at the Burrows, there were people everywhere. The rest of the order had arrived, presumably to finalise details about the battle they were now to face. Fred took a seat next to George on the couch, pulling Anertha down next to him, he refused to be parted from her now. 'Do you think we can win this?' George muttered, he was pale and staring off out the window. Fred didn't know what to say. Could they? Would they make it? He opted for putting an arm around his brother. He had no idea what to tell him.
The arrival at Hogwarts went as planned. The group slowly made their way to the great hall, careful to not draw attention. As they waited Fred noticed how unhomely the castle had become under Snape's leadership. He shuddered. 'You ok?' Anertha turned to him, she had felt the shudder. 'Yeah, just...It's nothing.' Molly turned to face them from the front. 'Now, it's all about to start, any moment. Promise me you will stick together?' She addressed them. The twins and Anertha nodded in silence.
The group had split. Fred, Anertha and George took their positions outside on a balcony. They stood there in silence, watching a dark crowd of death eaters march closer to the castle. Anertha took hold of the boy's hands and squeezed them tight. 'We can do this' she reassured them. Neither of them said a word. They just stared ahead of them, eyes full of fear as the barrier around the school began to fade, meaning death eaters would soon be flooding the grounds. Anertha took a step back from the twins. There was a door to the left of them, she chose to stand and guard it, just in case someone came through. 'I love you Freddie.' George spoke from behind her. 'I love you too Georgie.' Fred replied. Anertha turned to smile at them. She knew they loved each other, but you rarely heard them say it.
They were everywhere, as they defeated one, more would appear. Fred found himself pinned to the wall by a toad like death eater. His wand had been knocked out of his hand, he was defenceless. He closed his eyes in defeat. 'NOT MY BROTHER! REDUCTO!' He heard George call from a distance, when he opened his eyes the death eater was gone. He took a breath of relief. 'You ok Freddie?' George called as he made his way to his brother. 'Yeah, thanks' he smiled. He felt his brother wrap his arms around him, just what he needed.
'Reducio!' Anertha watched as the female death eater shrank before her eyes. She picked her up and flicked her out the window. She was beginning to wonder if they would ever end this, there was just so many of them. 'NOT MY BROTHER! REDUCTO!' She heard George shout from out on the balcony. Her heart gave a lurch. What had happened to Fred? She made her way swiftly out onto the balcony, where she found George cradling Fred on the floor. 'George? Fred?' George stood abruptly as if embarrassed. Fred smiled weakly at her from the ground. All of a sudden George's eyes opened wide and he began running to her. 'Anertha! Move!' In seconds there was a blast from beside her, she was knocked to the floor, George landing protectively on top of her as stone fell all around them. George was breathing deeply as he rolled off her and looked around. His face was suddenly stripped of all colour and filled with horror. Anertha sat up and followed his gaze. Half of the balcony was gone, the half with Fred on it. 'FRED!' They screamed together. They edged their way carefully to the drop that had now been created. She looked down tentatively, she found what she had been dreading to see, Fred, laying amongst the rubble, eyes closed. 'Please don't be dead.' She heard George sob from beside her. She took hold of his hands and looked him in the eyes. 'He's not....He's not' She was trying to convince herself.
George and Anertha had just reached Fred's limp body when they were halted by Voldemort's words echoing in their head's. Anertha was holding onto her head, it was not a feeling she liked. She noticed George doing the same. All she heard of his speech was 'dispose of your dead with dignity.' She looked with fright to Fred. She threw herself into the rubble before him. 'Fred! Fred come on, wake up!' She shook him vigorously. She did this for a whole five minutes while George looked on in shock. Just as she had given up and crumpled across him in tears, she felt a hand on her back. A hand that could not be George's, he was too far away. Her head shot up to find Fred's eyes open. 'AH! You're not dead!' She screamed in joy as she held him tight. George wiped away his tears and joined her in hugging his twin. Not saying a word. 'No, but I hurt like mad. Get off, the pair of you.' He muttered drowsily and in pain. Anertha and George let go of him immediately, smiling from ear to ear. They made it their job to keep Fred safe through the remainder of the battle.
