Did you know Merriam-Webster dictionary is free to use online? Quite a few people likely don't care whether Merriam-Webster is online or not, but there is a neat feature on their site called "Word of the Day" and that is going to be the basis for this particular challenge. What is the "Word of the Day" for Merriam-Webster? Take the word for today and start writing a story based around said word. The word limit is 10,000 words, and while you don't need to finish your story within the day you do need to start writing said story on that day. The story you write also needs to be a one-shot which stands on it's own, and not a rough draft.

What are the rules?

1. Follow all basic rules put down under the Rules section.

2. All stories must be a new story you've never published before.

3. Tag your stories with the proper category tag, the #MW-word tag, and #MW-year-month-date. A tag for the "Word of the Day" for June 5th, 2013 for example would look like this. #MW-2013-06-2013.

4. Only one story for fanfiction, popfic, and original fiction each per day.

5. Crossovers are allowed for this challenge.

6. Stories may be placed into a one-shot collection via fandom or genre for this particular challenge, but not all together. If you do decide to create collections for this challenge you do not have to use the date tags.

7. Summary should note the word which inspired you to write your story.

Banned Fandoms: Only the ones stipulated in the rules section.

Bonus Challenges:

1a. If you can find out what older "Word of the Days" are you may write a story for those as well, but first finish
one story where you look up the "Word of the Day" the first time you do this challenge.

2b. You can do crossovers, but tag them #MW-cross-word instead.
