Be sure to carefully read the Intro, Rules and Q&A pages before going any farther.

One of the most popular contextual reassignment AU is the High School AU, but not many writers pull off successful HS:AU's. A major reason this particular AU type is popular is because most of the writers are either in middle school or high school, and they're writing what they know. Since the writer knows so much about high school they think putting together a successful AU of this type will be easy, but many just read like original fiction disguised as fanfiction. The challenge is to write a high school AU following the rules put down. Each story should contain multiple parts, and be at least 10,000 words long.

Rules

1. Follow all basic rules put down under the rules section.

2. Tag all stories with the proper category tag, fandom tag and #au-highschool.

3. Only one series per fandom.

4. All characters in the series must retain the same relationships they do in canon. If a canon character doesn't know another canon character at the beginning of a series then they can't know said character at the beginning of your story, and if the character does happen to know a character before canon starts then you can't erase this relationship, but instead find it's equivalent within the setting.

5. The writer may not change a characters known parentage for this particular story, but they may create familial relationships out of possibilities within canon.

6. Do not place the characters into roles which amount to stereotypes for said character, and don't stereotype the roles either. Not all cheerleaders for example are bimbos who only care about their looks and getting laid by the football players.

7. Pay attention to age gaps. The child genius for example should remain a child genius rather then being aged up to match the other characters, and adults should remain adults compared to the children.

8. Don't make the high school you're only setting. One of the downfalls for many high school AUs is the fact writers don't spread their wings.

9. Chances are you'll need OCs for your story, so you are allowed to use them. However! You are not allowed to make them main characters, or to pair them with the canon characters. They're there to fill minor roles that the canon characters are unable to fill. The more canon characters you have to work with, the less likely you'll need to use an OC.

10. The one exception to the pairing rule for OCs is if there are no other options, and I by this I don't mean you don't like your options. Let's say for example your fandom has one guy character for five female characters around the same age. It's then natural that you'll need other guys for the characters to date. An OC can also be used in a love triangle, but use tact.

11. Feel free to pair canon characters together, but don't force them together. Keep in mind the point isn't to write a high school romance as well, but to write about high school life.

12. Use the high school system for the country your story is taking place in rather then the high school system you know.

13. Both old and new stories are allowed.

Banned Fandoms: On top of the ones stipulated in the rules section...

Original Fiction: You must have an already existing work which can neither take place in a high school, nor may it be possible for events in your story to take place in a high school.

Popfic: You're not allowed to use real people who went to high school together as that completely defeats the purpose of this AU.

Fanfic: You may not use any fandom which already takes place in a middle school or high school setting, nor may you write any story which amounts to a sequel to canon.

Books: Harry Potter, Twilight, Winx Club
Cartoons/Comics: Horseland, X-Men Evolution
Games: Digimon, Rockman.exe
Telivision: Glee, Teen Wolf

Bonus Challenges: If you finish stories for two fandoms you may create a crossover between said fandoms.

Note: None of the stories written for the 8/14/2015 #fanficfriday contest count towards this
