Ever come across a paint by number? Well here's the Length by Number challenge.
One of the things someone new to writing may struggle with is the length of the piece they are writing. For some writers they don't put enough words into their piece, but for others they put in to much filler. One of the ways of overcoming this is to limit the word length for a given work. The challenge involves picking a random word and writing a story with a particular word length based on the length of the word. How long might you ask?
– 100
– 100-400
– 500-900
– 1,000-1,600
– 2,000-2,500
– 2,500-3,600
– 4,000-4,900
– 5,000-6,400
– 6,500-8,100
– 8,500-10,000
– 10,000-12,100
– 12,500-14,400
– 14,500-16,900
– 17,000-19,600
– 20,000-22,500
– 22,500-25,600
– 26,000-28,900
– 29,000-32,400
– 32,500-36,100
– 36,500-40,000
Example: The word "love" is four letters in length, so you would write a story which is 1,000 to 1,600 words in length. The word "beautiful" on the other hand is nine letters long so you would write a story between 6,500 to 8,100 words long.
