One of the songs people tend to hear on during Christmas is the Twelve Days of Christmas. This song originated in the late 1780's, and received many renditions are known. One rendition from 1842 for example by Halliwell has the mother sending the gifts rather then the lover. The most popular version here in the United States is Austin's rendition from 1909, and the list looks like this.

1. a partridge in a pear tree
2. two turtle doves
3. french hen
4. calling birds
5. gold rings
6. geese a-laying
7. swans a-swimming
8. maids a-milking
9. ladies dancing
10. lords a-leaping
11. pipers piping
12. drummers drumming

What is the challenge?

The challenge is to write a one-shot collection based around the song in question. Each chapter is themed around one of the items on the list in some manner. The list however is not limited to Austin's rendition of the song, but includes other items as well. The numbers aren't important, and each one-shot needs to be at least 750 words long. The list below includes alternative options used.

1. a partridge in a pear tree, goldie ring, and the part of a June apple tree, very pretty peacock upon a pear tree
2. turtle doves, turtle doves and the part of a mistletoe bough
3. french hen
4. calling birds, canary birds, collie/colley/colly birds, corley birds
5. gold rings
6. ducks a-laying, geese a-laying
7. squabs a swimming, swans a-swimming
8. boys a-singing, hares a-running, hounds a running, ladies dancing, maids a-milking
9. bears a beating, drummers drumming, ladies dancing, lords a leaping, pipers piping
10. asses racing, cocks a crowing, drummers drumming, lords a-leaping, pipers piping, ships a sailing
11. bulls a-beating, ladies dancing, ladies spinning, lads a-louping, lords a leaping, pipers piping, badgers baiting
12. bells ringing, drummers drumming, ladies dancing, lords a leaping

What are the rules?

1. Follow all the rules put down under the rules section.

2. All one-shot collections must be a new story you've never published before.

3. Tag your stories with the proper category tag, fandom tags, and #12-xmas-shots.

4. Only one collection per fandom.

5. One shots must be done in order.

6. No repeating of words. Pipers piping appears as options for nine, ten, and eleven, but you can only use them for one of the one-shots.

7. You don't have to use all of the phrase. For the first section for example there is "goldie ring, and the part of a June apple tree". Since the only option for number five is "golden rings" one needs to focus on the second part.

8. Don't worry about matching the numbers. They're only important for the order.

9. Stories do not need to be holiday themed.

Banned Fandoms: None.

Bonus Challenges: Once you finish a one-shot for each of the days you may continue onto the other options for each day. Order after this doesn't matter.
