I curl up on the couch, legs tucked beneath me, as Kyler stretches out beside me, his arm draped over the back of the sofa. The Christmas tree twinkles in the corner of his living room, the scent of pine and cinnamon filling the air. December in LA never feels as cozy as it should, but inside, with the fireplace crackling and soft holiday movies playing, I can almost pretend we have real winter weather.
KYLER: Kyler shifts, running a hand through his dark hair. "So, Kenny's hosting the Christmas year party, officially. Just a little family thing, nothing too crazy." He says casually, his voice smooth but hesitant, like he's waiting to gauge my reaction.
I nibble on my lip. The Kardashian-Jenner parties—family gathering or not—are always elegant, intimate affairs. The idea of being there with everyone, wrapped up in their traditions, is sweet, but something tugs at me.
STASS: "I haven't seen my family much lately." I admit, pulling a throw blanket over my lap. "It'd be nice to spend time with them, too."
KYLER: Kyler nods, his fingers tracing circles on my knee. "We can do both, if you want. I mean, Kenny won't mind if we stop by and then head to your sister's. If you want, we can spend more time with your family this time around."
STASS: My heart warms at that. He's always been thoughtful, but hearing him say it out loud makes me appreciate him even more. "Let me call my Alexia and see what she's planning."
I grab my phone from the coffee table and dial her number, putting it on speaker so Kyler can hear.
ALEXIA: She picks up on the third ring. "Stass! What's up?"
STASS: "Hey! Just trying to figure out Christmas plans. Are you doing anything? I was thinking of spending more time with you guys this year."
ALEXIA: "Yes! I was actually going to call you." She says, excitement clear in her voice. "Dad and mom are coming over, so I'm doing dinner at my place. You should come...bring that superstar of yours, obviously."
STASS: I glance at Kyler, who nods instantly. "That sounds perfect. We'll be there."
ALEXIA: "Good, because mom is already asking about you." She teases. "And I'm making all your favorites, so no excuses."
STASS: After a little more back-and-forth about what time we should come over, I hang up and turn to Kyler with a smirk. "Looks like you're meeting the family this Christmas."
KYLER: He smiles, pulling me closer. "Sounds like a plan."
And just like that, the holiday feels a little warmer.
