Part 20

"Hey Stefan?" Adeline answered her phone as soon as she saw that it was Stefan calling her. Damon had left hours ago and Adeline had spent her time cleaning out her closet. It made more of a mess in her room than she wanted so she was glad of the distraction by Stefan.

"Hey, I uh..." Stefan sighed. Adeline imagined he was pinching the bridge of his nose by how annoyed he sounded. "We're dealing with a situation here at Elena's house, Damon turned Vicky."

Adeline gasped and her chest tightened. She didn't k who what she was feeling but she didn't like it.  "Like fully?"

"Not fully she's in transition." Stefan sighed again. "I could use some backup here, to help explain to Elena and Jeremy what's going on."

Adeline nodded even though Stefan couldn't see her. "I'll be on my way." Hanging up, Adeline stared at the mess of clothes on the bed and floor and decided it would be best to leave it be until later.

Several minutes later Adeline was walking into the Gilbert home where she saw everyone in the living room with the exception of Jeremy and Vickey. Matt was sat on the couch with his head in his hands.

Elena turned around and smiled at Adeline. "Adeline I'm glad you're here."

Adeline thought it was weird how nice Elena was being but she decided to just nod at the girl. "I'm assuming Jeremy and Vickey are upstairs."

Elena nodded. "I can't believe Damon would do this."

Adeline turned to Stefan. "When did Damon do this?"

"My guess is last night. After he left your house." Adeline cringed at how fast Elena's head turned to her.

"He was at your house last night?" Elena asked with what seemed to be concern.

"I was the distraction while Stefan went to go find Damon's ring." Adeline waved her off. "How long does Vickey have to finish the transition?"

"24 hours." Stefan sighed. "But we don't know when Damon turned her so who knows."

Elena then turned to Stefan. "How does she finish the transition?"

"She has to feed on human blood." Stefan admits sadly.

"And if she doesn't?"

"She'll die." Adeline could feel how tense Elena became at Stefan's words. Adeline placed her arm around Elena's shoulders.

"Everything's gonna be okay." Adeline patted her shoulder. "Stefan's helped loads of people."

"She's upstairs with him right now?" Elena pointed upstairs as she shook Adeline off.

"It's okay she doesn't know what's happening to her yet."

"So when is she gonna know?" Elena spun in her heel to look at Stefan, awaiting his answer.

"Right now she doesn't remember anything yet a part of her is still human. But slowly the deeper she gets into the transition the memories will start to come back and then she'll know she has to make a choice."

Elena paused as she slowly stood back up straight. "The same choice you made?"

Adeline stepped slightly in front of Stefan. "Elena that is not fair at all."

With that Elena turned and walked outside to the porch. Adeline turned slightly to Stefan. "I'm sorry she said that." Adeline ran a hand through her hair. " you're not like others of your kind and for her to assume you are..."

Stefan cut her off. "It's a fair assumption." He shrugged. "She doesn't know the full story."

Adeline's face softened. "You can trust her. She may not be my favorite person, but what I do know about that girl is she is loyal to a fault to the people she cares about. And Stefan?" Adeline made her way to follow after her. "She cares about you."
