Knocking was heard on my door every few minutes coming from servants asking me to come out and telling me my mother was furious and most of all embarrassed. Even my brothers came and asked me to unlock the door, telling me I couldn’t stay in my room forever, and then they eventually stopped coming, realizing I wasn’t coming out anytime soon.

Once I had stopped crying I began to get angry, how could my father do this to me? I mean I would see my mother doing something like this, but my father was the relaxed one of my parents, while my mother the strict one. I would go to him when I was little and someone had told me I couldn’t have another sweet and he would insist I have as many as I wanted. And when mother consisted that I be kept indoors being taught how to be a queen, my father disowned the idea saying it wasn’t good for a child to be forced into something she didn’t want. And now he’s doing the exact opposite of what he said. It seems like everyone I thought I knew is changing around me.

I rubbed my eyes and rinsed my face with a bucket of water that was kept in my room. The knocking had stopped about thirty minutes ago, everyone should now be in the dining hall eating to their hearts content.

I slowly opened my door, checking to see if there was anyone outside. My eyes widened when I spotted a young servant boy who had obviously been suckered into watching the door until I eventually opened it. I about slammed the door shut but soon realized he was fast asleep, leaning against the stone wall with his arms crossed over his chest.

I snickered and went up to him, slowly walking him into my room making sure to not wake him, and closed the doors behind me. I needed to get out, at least for a little while, not be Princess Addison but just a normal person, free to do as I would like.

I quickly stripped him of his outer clothes that I would need, leaving him only wearing his dirty white underclothes, and came out with a russet brown sleeveless tunic that hung a little above my knees and would be a little big on me, probably even when I tie it tightly around the waist, which was a little bit of a good thing seeing as it would help conceal my chest and make me look more like a boy. I also grabbed his sandals that were too big but able to walk in, and a deep red hood that went over my shoulders, which would help hide my long hair. I tied his legs and arms up with some tweed lying on my dresser, and rolled him under my bed, finally changing into the garments I had stolen.

Putting my hood up I went about the halls, surprisingly not seeing any guards walking around, I couldn’t hear any chatter from the dining room either, and you can always hear someone talking in the castle, even if you couldn’t make out their words, but all I heard was quietness. I went towards the dining hall, I wasn’t going to reveal myself I just wanted to know why everyone was quiet. Peeking out from the wall, my mouth widened from shock.

Everyone was just laying around asleep, some had fallen into their dinner dishes and were a complete mess, and even the servants and guards were on the ground dreaming. A soft rumble from all around breathed throughout the room, coming from the snoring of everyone.

I rushed over to my parents checking to see if they were alright, I shook my father’s shoulders praying for him to wake up. Suddenly I heard two faint voices, which meant that someone was awake. I almost rushed towards them when I stopped myself, what if they were the reason why everyone had fallen asleep? I quickly grabbed a knife from the table and went over to the wall sitting down and leaning against it, pulling my hood over my eyes and gripping the knife tightly but kept it hidden, seeing as I was pretending to sleep.
