um ... also... trigger warning for this chapter. some (potentially) traumatic themes mentioned in this chapter + the next one.
Dating a celebrity for the better part of three months will do things to your subconscious. I dropped the 'petty' conversations and slipped into juicy bliss with my boyfriend. Ignorance and ego festered underneath my skin, growing more by the day and igniting a subtle pulse deep within my body. As if it were a separate entity, it was awakened.
Niall's American and Australian leg of the tour was coming to a close, and soon enough, we would be back within the place he called home to wrap everything up with a nice little bow. He started the tour in his home country, and had been set up to return there for another 8 sold-out shows between the few places he would visit. It was stunning to realise that he was able to have that kind of pull, the obsession of the fans was nothing short of shocking. He had an over 90% attendance rate throughout the tour so far, with almost every show sold out.
Australia was like nothing I'd ever experienced, but the jet lag sucked the life from me for most of our trip. The initial arrival, I did nothing but sleep, marinate within the covers of the bed Niall and I shared, and fall asleep under sauna lights to convince myself I was adjusting to the time difference.
Beads of sweat glistened against my forehead, my stomach was shiny and damp. One thing I attributed to staying in Australia; my glistening, golden, sun-kissed skin.
Every day post jet-lag we spent exploring places, and they were all in the sun. The sauna was just a mere representation of what the humid outside weather was like. It was holding up a mirror to the realities of the country we were in.
I gripped the towel next to my hips, trying to rid my hands of the clammy feeling. Without opening my eyes, I adjusted my body to sit a bit more comfortably, stretching my legs out on the wavy-shaped modern daybed.
My hand felt the touch of another, their palm covering the top of mine and engulfing it.
I fluttered my eyes open to look at Niall, who was standing up next to my daybed. I didn't even notice him come in, I was so relaxed — practically asleep, that I hadn't heard him.
"Hey, sunshine."
I smiled warmly at his reception. "Hi, handsome."
"Wanna go out to dinner later?"
I fiddled with our hands still interlocked, scooting my body over so I would face Niall. He sat on a bed next to mine in nothing but his plain black underwear. We'd gotten into an argument about why he didn't wear swim trunks, but his point was that they were one and the same. I even offered to buy some for him, to which he embarrassingly humbled me by reminding me that money was not the issue.
"Hmm. Where 'ya thinking?" I pondered his question, weighing up the options. I'd given up trying to argue when and where we should announce our relationship, it was starting to slowly slip through the cracks anyway. We'd been caught by paparazzi a number of times, now. There was nothing outright incriminating, but people were talking about us regardless. My account was private, but like Niall predicted, dozens of different news and journalism sites had scoured the internet to find out any information about 'Niall's new potential beau — who is she, and where did she come from?'
"I'd love to do dinner on the pier." He innocently suggested.
I played it cool with my answer, shrugging. "Bit public, babe."
