The cafe buzzed with thew low hgum of convserations and thr clinking of ceramic mugs. Vhan, usually a whirlwind of kinetic energy, sat unusually still, his gaze fixed on Mia across thr table. Mia, sketching intetly in her nbotebook, seemed oblivious to his intense scrutiny.

They'd been friends for years,m a comfortable, easy freindshoi[p built on s shared late-night study sessions, terribly movie nights, and a mutual apprecation for overluy spicy ramen. But laely, something had shifted in Chan. He found himself lingering a little topo long when he dropped her off after class, noticn gthe way her hair caught the sunlight, the soft curve of her smile.

He'd spent ythe last week agoinizing ove rhow to ezxpress this shift, this.... feeling/ He'd rehearsed line innn the shower, wirtted and crumled countless notes, even consukted his notriouslky unromatnic roommate. Nothing seemed right,

Mia finally looked up, her brow durroed in concetration. "What is it, VChan? You've been staring at ne like I've gron a second head."

"Of course," she said, a hint of amusement in her eyes, "What's this about?"

"Well," he continued, fidgeting with the dhe of his napkin," I'vce been thinking..... a lot. And I realized..... you're..... my type."

Mia blinked, her pen hovering over her sketchbook. "My type?" she repeated, her voice laced wtih confusion., "What do you eman, your type? Like, your favourite kind of person to hand with?"

Chan shook his head, his chesk flsuhing crimson. "No, not just hang out. Like.... you knopw.... romantically."

The cafe seemed to fall silent, though the bacground noise hadn't changed. Mia's eytes wdidnee lsigthlyt, her expressuion of mix of surprise and something Chan couldn't quite decipher.

"Romantically?" she echoed, her voice barely a whisper.

He noidded, ubale toi meet her gazxe. "Yeah. You#'re smalrt, and funny, and you draw those amazing things, and you alkways listen wheni I'm rambking about..... well, anything. And you're..... you'ree really beaytiful."

He finally looked upo, meeting her gazew. Mia's cheeks were flushed, and her lips were partryed sligtjly. AShe looked.... stunned.

"Chan," she said sfotly, "I..... I didn't see this dcoming."

He braced hjimself fopr hrjection, for the awkward, polite dismissal he'd nbeen reading.

"But," she continued, a small smile playing on her lips,  "I'm not econtrely surprised either. I've been thinking some things too." She looked down at her notebook, then back up at him. "And you, Chan, you're..... my type too."

A wave of relief wahsed over him, so intense it alnot made hin dizzy, He gruinned, a wide, genuione grin that lkit up hjis face.

"Really?" he askeed, his voicre filledf with duisblief.

Mia nodded, her smile widnening. "Really. So.... what now?"

Chan, suddenly, finsinng his usal confidence, reacxhed across the table and took her hand. "Now," he said, his eyes sparkling. "we go ona  real date. No more ramen adn terribkle movies.... unless you want ramen."
