The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the manicured lawns of the University of Reading campus. Mia, perched precariously on a low stone wall, sighed dramatically. "My feet are officially protesting," she declared, wiggling her toes inside her worn-out Converse.

Chan, who had been patiently sketching in his notebook, looked up, a gentle smile gracing his lips. "Another victim of the 'too-many-libraries-in-one-day' syndrome?"

Mia nodded emphatically. "You have no idea. My legs feel like jelly. I swear, the library stacks multiply when you're trying to find that one elusive journal."

Chan chuckled, closing his notebook. "Well, lucky for you, I happen to know a very reliable, albeit slightly hairy, form of transportation." He stood up, stretching his arms above his head. "Hop on, Captain."

Mia's face brightened instantly. "You're a lifesaver, Chan!" She carefully swung her legs around, positioning herself so her arms could loop around his neck. Chan bent slightly, allowing her to settle comfortably on his back.

With a little wiggle to find the perfect balance, Mia was secure. Chan stood up straight, his strong legs easily supporting her weight. "Ready for departure?" he asked, his voice a little muffled by her hair.

"Aye, aye, Captain Chan!" Mia chirped, a wide grin on her face.

And so they began their slow stroll across the campus. Mia rested her chin on Chan's shoulder, enjoying the unusual perspective. The world looked different from up high. She could see over the tops of the hedges, and the other students seemed so much smaller.

"Look!" she exclaimed, pointing towards a group of ducks waddling across the path. "They look like they're having a conference!"

Chan chuckled. "Probably discussing the best bread crumb strategy."

They continued their journey, their conversation flowing easily between them. Mia would occasionally point out interesting details – a particularly vibrant patch of daffodils, a squirrel burying a nut, the intricate architecture of the old buildings. Chan would listen attentively, offering his own observations.

Sometimes, Mia would playfully tug on his ears or ruffle his hair. Chan would respond with a mock groan, but his smile never faded. He enjoyed the feeling of her arms around his neck, the light weight on his back a comforting presence. It was a simple act, a piggyback ride, but it felt deeply connected, a silent testament to their easy companionship.

As they passed the student union, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air. "Ooh, coffee break?" Mia suggested hopefully.

Chan stopped. "Your chariot awaits." He gently lowered her to the ground.

Mia stretched, a sigh of contentment escaping her lips. "You're the best, you know that?" she said, reaching out to squeeze his hand.

Chan's cheeks flushed slightly. "Someone has to look after the damsel in distress."

Inside the bustling café, they found a cozy corner table. As they sipped their lattes, Mia recounted the horrors of her library expedition, her voice animated. Chan listened patiently, offering words of sympathy and encouragement.

Later, as the sky began to paint itself in hues of orange and pink, they resumed their piggyback journey. This time, the silence between them was comfortable, filled with the unspoken understanding of shared moments. The gentle sway of Chan's steps lulled Mia into a peaceful state.

As they reached the gates of her accommodation, Chan carefully lowered her one last time. Mia stood on her own two feet, feeling surprisingly refreshed.

"Thank you, my noble steed," she said, leaning in to give him a soft kiss on the cheek.

Chan's smile widened. "Anytime, my fair maiden. Though next time, maybe we'll invest in a small scooter?"

Mia laughed. "Don't even think about it. Nothing beats a Chan-powered piggyback ride." And as she turned to head inside, she knew that these simple moments, these acts of kindness and affection, were the threads that wove the beautiful tapestry of their relationship. The tired feet were forgotten, replaced by the warm memory of being carried by the person she loved.
