Why?
I sat on the too soft bed, arms wrapped around my legs. Dad cursed under his breath as he stuffed clothes and the horse into a bag. One of his shirts. A few of Triton's. He glanced at me.
"Do you want to take any of these with you?" He gestured at the pile of stuffed animals in the corner. I stared at him. My tongue, cotton in my mouth. Bandages wrapped my hands, because I wasn't letting him heal that after pushing me down and using water on my arm. No matter how brief that had been.
If I had spoken, it wouldn't have been an answer.
Why?
Sighing, Dad kissed my forehead. "Little one, can you get out of your head for a moment?" His thumb rubbed against my bicep, grounding me.
"What--" I chomped the rest down. Don't ask, idiot. I couldn't sense him well enough to know if he was pissed. His aura had pulled, violently, out of my reach all at once. I did something to cause that. It'd be up to me to figure it out since he hadn't told me.
Every other time, he told me. Hurting myself. Biting myself. Not eating. Those were things he made clear to me. He was like that with Amphitrite and Kym too. So I messed up big time if he's not even telling me what I can do to fix it.
"Any of your stuffed animals," he said slowly, like I was dumb. Annabeth would talk like that when I didn't get a concept at first. Condescending, then teasing. I cut my lips on my teeth. Dad's leaned towards the first.
Staring, not answering, just staring, I tightened my grip until my bones creaked.
Dad turned and stuffed the yellow bunny into the bag, followed by a beanbag cat. The zipper caught; he forced it shut before dropping the bag beside me. "Let's go."
What did I do wrong?
What did I do to get sent away the way I had as a child?
short one to bridge the gap
Longer one will be coming soon-ish
Feel free to post your theories about whats going on in the comments
