Dylan's gaze remained locked on mine as he wiggled his brows up and down. He leant against the door watching me sitting on my bed with my iPad. I nod towards Elexis making her presence clear to him. She pouts and slowly puts the book she was reading. Her mouth opens intending to speak but closes it as I butt in before she could say anything. "You know I can make you do anything, right?"
Dylan stalked over and cupped my cheeks with his rough hands, "oh yeah? And how can you be so sure about that? Just because you created me doesn't mean I don't have a mind of my own," he smirked and let me free. I glanced at Elexis who stared at me with an unfriendly expression. I knew what she was thinking. I shook my head at her. It's not the right time. Not now. Please. God, hear my prayers. Stop her before she says anything.
"You haven't told him." Umm Lawdy, where were you? she dusted her nails on her shoulder, "have you?" She said in an unbelieving voice, making me tense up. Again, I shook my head and pursed my lips warning her to stop. Yet, she continued, "she's planning of ending the book," she stood up and closed the distance between us. "She's planning of ending us Dyl."
Dylan looked from me too her. Me. Her. Me. Her. Although I loved Elexis, she could be a stubborn pain in the butt. I shifted my gaze to the bed covers and shuffled backwards, now leaning against the bed board. "Is this true?" Dylan demanded, his tone fierce as ice, cracking the heat beading on my forehead. I tried to speak, I opened my mouth and left it agape while I searched for the right words.
He stumbled backwards and ran his hand through his tangled hair, a sign of irritation and impatience. "Why?" He asked on a sigh, "what's wrong, Zess?" He messaged the back of his neck, "we can fix this, make the book better! Together. You. Me. Elexis. Cameron and, and even Cassey-Kay, we can transform it! Improve!" He begged. Yet my decision was made of setting concrete. Time is of essence.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
"I-I can't keep writing. I'm sorry," I looked up and met his gaze. His normally soft, brown eyes now glassed in frustration and anger. Elexis melted into him and I watched as they embraced each other, hard against soft. They needed each other. And here I am, planning to end their future? Their life. Murder. Bloody murder! I screamed internally. How could I think such a thought!
"You know, this chapter picture," Elexis looked up and then back down to me, "it describes my exact feelings right now, isn't that funny." She scowled. Gosh, Isn't she cute.
"Oh, I'm glad. My friend Taylah_Joco made that, maybe go thank her." Shut down.
I broke the silence growing in the room. My windows rattled as tree branches brushed against the, unable to fight against the raging wind-storm. "Look, just hear me out. It's for the better and for all I kn-"
"Better?" Elexis faced me now, her face redding as she spoke. "For the better?! What, you think I can't handle the future? Yeah, well test me! Test me to the limit! Push me too my breaking point! Because Zess, I am willing to go that far if I have too, I am willing to fight for my friends and to keep the people I love safe," a tear rolled down her cheek. Looks like I just hit her limits. Well, that didn't take long.
Dylan grabbed her and wrapped his arms around her hushing her. "It's going to be all right, Lexi, don't you worry." He stroked her hair and kissed her temple. "Go get a drink and give Kyle a ring and tell him to meet us here in, ok baby?" Oh how sweet.
She looked up and fluttered her long, mascara coated eye lashes, another tear escaped, "how do you know she's not just going to stop writing," she looked over at me and pushed Dylan away from his grasp. She walked over and sat on the end of the bed, shifting me a little. "Please, Zess, you can do this. It doesn't have to be this way." Argh, again with my name.
