Remmy's POV
Violet. Her name stirred hatred in me. It was her fault that Mason didn't want to get back together with me. It was her who had to get in the way of my fairytale. She ruined everything. And she would pay.
Mason had just told me that he had broken up with me because of my attitude toward others. I had listened, like a nice person would, but did that make any sort of a difference? Heck no. Even when I got close to him, holding his hand, and was about to kiss him it made no difference at all. He had fallen for her so hard he wasn't thinking straight. But I would fix that.
Right at that moment, the girl herself walked in. Trailing closely behind Violet was Seth. They had excited grins plastered onto their faces, but the moment they saw Mason and me, their smiles disappeared. They were replaced by polite smiles that didn't fool me.
Looking over at Mason, I saw that he was trying not to make it obvious that he was staring at Violet. I looked over to Violet. My eyes turned into venemous slits and I slowly stood up. I saw the frightened look on Violet's face. I felt her fear.
She took a shaky step back, bringing her closer to Seth. I took another step forward, slowly closing the distance between us. Everything was going to be settled-now.
I forced myself to put a smile on my face, though I knew it fooled no one. "How are you, Violet?" I asked her. She didn't respond immediatedly, instead studying me with her piercing blue eyes. They were eyes that I was jealous of.
"I'm fine." She said slowly. While responding, she grabbed Seth's hand, holding onto it tightly. So tightly, in fact, that her knuckles had turned white. This was going to be good.
Violet's POV
I held on tightly to Seth's hand. Remmy was coming closer to me every second. She was smiling, but it was in an unfriendly way. Remmy had always scared me; right now she was down right terrifying.
I looked back at Seth. He stared at me, and I saw that he was uncertain. Taking a deep breath, I gently pulled my hand out of his. I leaned up to him. "I need to talk to her." I whispered into his ear. His eyes held doubt, but I quickly kissed his cheek and turned back to Remmy.
I was nervous about talking to Remmy. She was very obviously upset but the last thing I wanted was for us to end on a bad note. I didn't know if I would ever see Remmy again, but I still felt like I had to set things straight.
"Can we talk, please?" I tried to keep my voice calm and steady. She glared at me before finally nodding. We walked into the hallway, where Mason and Seth woldn't be able to overhear.
At first neither of us said a word. Remmy was still glaring at me, with her arm crossed on her chest. I was almost afraid to talk, but I gathered up my courage. "Remmy, I know you used to go out with Mason." I paused, waiting for her reactio, but she just pursed her lips, waiting for me to continue.
"And I know that you still like him." That got a response out of her. "How would you know that?" She asked. She didn't wait for me to respond. "You know what? It doesn't even matter. I just want to know this." She took a breath, gaining her composure, before continuing. "Do you like him?"
In that moment, Remmy didn't seem like a threat, or someone I was afraid of. She looked more like a child, innocent and willing to believe anything as long as it was what she wanted to hear.
I shook my head silently, and Remmy's face became filled with relief. "Well, that's good." She said. I noticed her cool, uninterested facade was back up again. I had a feeling she was having a hard time believing me, but I didn't see anything else I could do.
I asked the question I'd most wanted to ask. "Are we good?" Remmy looked at me quizically before understanding lit across her face. Her face was guarded when she replied. "Sure." I nodded, not knowing what else to say.
We stood there for a moment longer in silence. "So, do you wanna go back?" I finally asked. "Yeah, why not." Remmy replied. We made our way back into the sitting room. Mason and Seth were still there, sitting as far apart from each other as possible. They weren't talking, but instead looking everywhere except at each other.
When they heard us come in, both of their heads snapped up at once. Seth's eyes met mine, and I smiled. Seth returned it with a dazzling one of his own. Whenever Seth smiled, it accented his alluring chocolate brown eyes. They were eyes that were so perfect for him, so right, and at times like these I wished I could stare into them all day.
I went to sit by him on the couch, and he instantly wound his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him. I looked over at Remmy and Mason, who were keeping a three foot distance from each other, to see if it was making them uncomfortable. I knew some people weren't comfortable with PDA.
They didn't seem to mind. It looked like they were in a staring contest with each other, their eyes unwavering. It was almost like they were having a telepathic conversation. Suddenly Remmy got up and left. She didn't look back when she walked up the stairs.
I looked over at Mason. He was sitting, his face expressionless, seeming to be staring at nothing. I leaned my head on Seth's chest. The warmth it provided comforted me. I looked up at Mason and nodded my head toward Mason. The gesture asked, "should we say something?". Seth shrugged his shoulders.
"So how was your day?" I looked up, suprised to hear Mason speak. He was looking over at us, his face curious, but not overly so like usual. He looked delfated and defeat, his eyes unusually devoid of life. I was starting to think that Remmy tired him, with all her speculation and upkeep. She always needed attention and it was sometimes hard for Mason to keep up with her.
"It was fine." Seth's voice was cool, guarded; I knew he was suspicious of Mason's question. Mason didn't say anything so I spoke up. "We found some coins." Mason raised an eyebrow, and looking at Seth I saw that he was looking at me with shock.
I wiggled out of Seth's embrace and walked over to the couch that Mason was sitting at. Reaching into my pocket, I pulled one of the coins out of my pocket. It was one of the smaller coins Seth and I found. It had an oval shape and rivets on the edges.
Mason looked at me with surprise. I fingered the edge of the coin between my fingers before showing it to him. "What's that?" He asked quizically. His eyebrows crunched together in concentration. Looking over at Seth, I saw that he looked confused, too.
I turned back to Mason. "This is one of the coins we found today." I brought it closer to him. He put his palm up and I dropped the coin. He studied it for a moment. After a moment he looked up. "Why are you showing me this?"
I didn't completely know why myself, but he seemed so sad and defeated. I wanted to distract him, if only for a moment. I shrugged my shoulders. "You just seemed like you needed a distraction." He stared at me, for a moment longer than was necessary. I knew I should have looked away, but his eyes were impossible to look away from. Mason's eyes, though green, reminded me so much of Seth's chocolate eyes in that moment.
Although Mason only made eye contact with me for a couple of seconds, it felt much longer. Mason broke the moment when he stood up. "I've gotta go. Thanks for showing me the coin." He gave the coin to me. He looked back at Seth and Seth nodded. Mason returned the gesture before smiling at me. "Really, thanks."
And then he walked out of the room. I wondered briefly why Mason left so quickly, but I was quickly distracted by Seth's arms wrapping around my waist. "Do you want dinner?" I asked him, craning my head to look into his face. He smiled at me, a smile that melted my heart and made my breath catch in my throat.
"Sure." He whispered, before kissing my ear. I smiled and grabbed his hand. "Come on then. Dinner hours are almost over." As I led Seth to the kitchen, I forgot about everything-about Remmy, about Mason, about tomorrow being my last day here at the Seaside Retreat. For that moment, when I was leading Seth into the kitchen, I only thought about the two of us. Everything felt right in the world
