Chapter 33: The End That Wasn't Meant to Be
It was our last day of the trip, and for some reason, ang gaan ng pakiramdam ko pag gising ko. The soft rustle of the curtains brushing against the window, the warm sunlight creeping in through the small opening, and the coolness of the early morning air, lahat ng iyon ay parang nagpatahimik ng kung anong ingay sa puso ko.
I turned to my side, watching Rage peacefully sleep beside me, his small arms curled up under his chin, mouth slightly open. Thunder was still asleep too, sa kabilang side ng kama, arms over his eyes dahil natatamaan na siya ng sinag ng araw.
We didn’t talk much last night. After the amusement park, pagbalik namin ng hotel, bagsak kaming tatlo. But in that silence, I knew we were slowly building something… something we couldn’t name yet. Hindi pa kami buo. Hindi pa kami ayos. Pero ngayon, okay na kung hindi muna kami. As long as Rage was happy.
I was about to stand up kasi nasisinagan na talaga ng araw ang pwesto ni Thunder. Pero bago pa man ako makatayo ay may kumalabit na sa akin.
“Mommy…”
Rage’s voice stopped me. I smiled and brushed the hair from his forehead.
“Yes, baby?”
He rubbed his eyes. “Are we still going to the zoo today?”
“Of course, sweetheart. It’s the last day. We have to make the most of it.”
He immediately stood up and wake his daddy.
"Then let's go!"
Nagmadali kaming mag-ayos. Rage didn’t even finish his breakfast, halos ilang kagat lang sa pancake, then he was dragging us out of the hotel.
The ride was not that long dahil hindi naman ito kalayuan, but not too near too.
The air was fresh, medyo maaliwalas. We arrived at the zoo around 10 a.m. May dala kaming light snacks and water bottles.
“Daddy, I want that!” Rage pointed at a blue animal-print hat from one of the stands. Thunder immediately bought it.
Nag match silang dalawa. Kahit ayaw ng isa ay napilit ito. Rage tried to pursue me but I declined.
"Then, this headband nalang po please?" I sighed. Giving up. Binili ko nalang ang itinuro niya.
Napuno ng tawa ang umpisa ng araw namin. The bird sanctuary was the first area we entered. Sobrang daming makukulay na ibon. Some were caged, others flew freely above. The air was filled with chirping sounds, and the scent of fresh leaves and birdseed.
I took a picture of everything. They look so beautiful especially with their unique colors. May ilang feathers din na nasa daan. Pumupulot pa si Rage.
Sinita ko siya dahil baka bawal, but a security assured me that it's fine. Wala naman daw silang gagawin sa mga ito.
Kaunti lang din naman ang mga kinuha ni Rage dahil hindi naman madami.
Parrots squawked overhead, flamingos strutted near the pond, and Rage was mesmerized. Kitang-kita kung gaano kaaliwalas ang mukha niya.
“Mommy, look! That one talks!”
“Yes, anak. That’s an African Grey Parrot. They’re really smart.”
“Smarter than me?” he teased.
I pinched his nose. “No one’s smarter than my baby.”
Thunder was watching us, an unreadable look in his eyes. I slightly smiled at him at tumango naman ito at walang sinabi.
