Chapter 34: Chaos
It was a great chaos. Snakes hissing from everywhere. People are running everywhere habang nakahawak sa mga kasama nila.
He was crying.
"Shh..." I hushed him.
"Josh! Oh my God! Are you okay?" may pag-aalalang tanong neto sa anak.
"Thank you, miss!" agad din naman silang umalis sa harap ko. Mapakla akong ngumiti.
I was hoping to find Rage just like that too.
Nanatili akong nakatayo doon — unable to process everything.
I fell to my knees, fingers digging into the pavement, nails scraping against the floor. Hindi ako makahinga. My baby. My Rage. My only child. My reason for everything. Gone. Just like that.
I am more than devastated. Hindi ko makita ang anak ko.
"Ma'am, you need to step back." one of the staff tried to pull me away from the thickening crowd.
"Don't touch me! My son is missing! He's missing! You need to find him! You need to find him!" I hissed.
Thunder rushed toward me, his chest heaving. His eyes bloodshot. "They’re locking down the whole zoo. No one goes in or out."
"What if he's already outside?! What if they took him earlier?! Thunder, what if—what if we’re too late?!" lumakas ang mga hikbi ko. Sumasakit ang dibdib.
He knelt in front of me and grabbed my face gently, forcing me to look into his eyes. "We are not too late. Do you hear me? I will find him, Amora. I swear. I swear on everything I have. I’ll bring our son back."
"He’s a smart boy," Thunder whispered shakily. "If he sees a chance, he’ll get out. He’ll find a way." he keeps on reassuring me, pero it's not enough — nawawala ang anak ko.
But what if he couldn’t? What if he was hurt? What if they — I shaked my head from negative thoughts. Hindi pwede.
"The cameras." I mumbled. "The cameras... the enclosures had cameras. The reptile house had one above the snake tank!"
Thunder stood up immediately. "I'll go. Stay here in case he comes back to this area."
"I can’t just wait! Let me go with you!" hinawakan ko ang kamay niya para hindi siya umalis. I want to find Rage with him. Gusto kong makita kaagad siya.
He cupped my face again. "You have to. If he comes back and we’re both gone, what then?"
He was right.
My body gave up and I slumped on one of the benches. My arms trembled, still holding Rage’s tiny cap Thunder had picked up earlier near the broken glass.
Napayakap ako dito. Tahimik akong umiiyak habang naghihintay kay Thunder. Some people looks distressed too.
Nilalaro ko ang aking kamay.
