Chapter 80

Hyunjoo was at the nurse's station, discussing a few things with the technician, when she noticed a call light had been pressed. The girl finished her conversation before making her way to her patient's room. As soon as she entered, her eyebrows knitted themselves into a furrow.

"What's wrong?" Hyunjoo gently asked, noticing the disheartened mood her patient was clearly in.

"My mommy said she couldn't come visit me today because she's too busy..." the little girl informed her nurse, her shoulders drooping further down as the corner of her lips fell with it.

The unfortunate news caused Hyunjoo to frown in response, heart aching a little at the disappointment and sadness etching itself across her patient face. Her lips pulled into a thin line as she quickly thought up of ways to help cheer the little girl up.

"Do you want to go to the playroom?" Hyunjoo asked after a while.

Silence fell around the two as her patient considered the idea. The little girl nodded her head after much contemplation. With a smile, Hyunjoo helped her out of the bed and led her out of the unit. As they walked, she talked to her patient, hoping their conversation would bring the little girl's mood up. They talked about various things, allowing the topics to range from fairies to princesses.

By the time Hyunjoo dropped her patient off at the playroom, the little girl's spirit had improved a little. Content, she left her patient with the caretakers and returned to her unit. The girl made her rounds and checked up on each of her patients, performing the necessary tasks. She went back to the nurse's station once she was done and immediately got to charting, updating her patients information.

A few minutes would pass before it was time for her to take a break. She logged out of the computer before heading towards the break room. Along the way, she checked up on her patient and asked if they needed anything from her. After taking care of some minor tasks, such as refilling her patient's pitcher, Hyunjoo finally made it to the break room.

The second she walked in, she was immediately met by unwelcoming glares from the two nurses already there. Having grown used to the stares, she made her way to the fridge and pulled out her light snack. She settled down near the end of the table right after, putting a fair distance between her and her co-workers. Hyunjoo ignored the way their eyes occasionally shot towards her, digging daggers into her skin, and started enjoying her yogurt.
